Few days ago, at the recent stakeholders meeting, the #PeoplesGovernor Hope Uzodimma made it clear that he will not influence the forthcoming Local Government election in Imo State.

His statement, “If you want to be a councillor in your ward, go and talk to your people. If you want to be a Local Government Chairman, Go And Talk To Your People. I am not going to influence this election, no body will emerge from my table,” underscores his commitment to neutrality and the democratic process.

This statement is a welcome development, as it sets the tone for a free and fair election. It also serves as a reminder to aspirants that the power to emerge as leaders lies with the people, not with the governor or any other individual.

As such, aspirants must take the initiative to connect with their constituents, listen to their concerns, and present their vision for the future.

Gov. Uzodimma’s neutrality in the election is a testament to his dedication to democratic principles.

By refusing to influence the outcome, he is creating an environment where the people’s voices can be heard and their choices respected.

This approach will not only strengthen the democratic process but also ensure that the elected leaders are truly representative of the people’s will.

Aspirants in the forthcoming LG election must take heed of Gov. Uzodimma’s words and focus on building connections with the people.

They must engage in door-to-door campaigns, town hall meetings, and other forms of grassroots engagement to win the hearts and minds of their constituents.

By doing so, they will demonstrate their commitment to serving the people and earn their trust and support.

Gov. Uzodimma’s neutrality in the forthcoming LG election is a positive development that will ensure a free and fair process.

Aspirants must seize this opportunity to connect with the people and emerge as leaders through the democratic process. The people of Imo State deserve nothing less.
