Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has moved up three spots in the latest FIFA rankings, now sitting at 36th globally.

This improvement follows their recent triumph over Libya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, where they secured a narrow 1-0 victory.

Despite the win, the return match against Libya has been relocated due to unsportsmanlike conduct from Libyan authorities.

In the continental standings, Nigeria ranks fourth, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt, who occupy the top three positions.

Morocco leads African teams at 13th in the world rankings, followed by Senegal at 20th.

Egypt is ranked 30th, with Nigeria closely behind at 36th, and Algeria in 37th place, completing the top five in Africa.

FIFA’s announcement also highlighted notable advances for other African teams, including Comoros and Sudan, which each climbed ten spots after defeating Tunisia and Ghana, respectively, in their recent qualifiers.

Globally, Argentina continues to dominate the rankings, holding the top position, followed by France and Spain.

England, Brazil, and Belgium round out the top six.
