Mr Uko Ndukwe Nkole, the former member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, has advised Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and officials of his administration to focus more on governance and not on the members of the opposition in the State.

Nkole, who spoke in an interview with with ABN TV, described the shadow government formed by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a necessary tool for keeping the government in power accountable, ensuring that it remains focused on delivering its promises to the people.

He highlighted the critical role the opposition plays in a democracy, stating that without it, democracy would lose its essence.

Drawing comparisons with historical instances, the former legislator recalled how civil societies, such as NADECO, were instrumental in holding military regimes accountable.

“The job of the opposition is not to clap for the government in power but to act as a check on its activities.

“We advise the government to stop chasing shadows and focus on fulfilling its promises. A shadow government is not about seizing power; it’s about ensuring that governance is effective and beneficial to the people

“So, I will advise the Governor, let him just focus and do the right thing”, said Nkole.

Nkole also called on law enforcement agencies to uphold democratic principles and avoid suppressing opposition voices, emphasizing that the establishment of a shadow government ensured vibrant democratic system.

He, however, commended the present administration in Abia State for awarding the contract for the completion of Arochukwu-Ohafia Federal road, which could not be completed by the previous administration of the PDP.

A former lawyer of United States President-elect Donald Trump, has pleaded with outgoing President Joe Biden to grant him a pardon just like he did for his son Hunter.

Cohen is claiming that Trump will punish him for testifying against the politician in his hush money conviction.

Cohen had already been convicted for his role in the case years earlier.

He was also the star witness for the prosecution as Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts in the case last year.

Cohen served as the go-between for the $130,000 payment Trump made to adult film star, Stormy before the 2016 presidential election.

With Mr Trump ready to return to the White House in a week, Mr Cohen is calling on Mr Biden to issue a presidential pardon for him before he leaves office, stating that he and others on Mr Trump’s ‘enemies list’ deserved pardons like Mr Biden’s son, who was granted full and unconditional pardon.

“I put in application for the presidential pardon because I believe Joe Biden has the same responsibility to be that he has to his son”, Cohen said. “I would expect the same exact pardon he gave his son to me and anyone that is on that enemies list whether they want it or not because solitary confinement where I did 51 days sucks.”

The disgraced lawyer, however, said he was shocked that Trump received unconditional release during his sentencing.

South Korea’s Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) has urged the defence ministry and the Presidential Security Service to cooperate in its second attempt to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk-Yeol.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the CIO issued formal letters late Sunday warning of potential legal repercussions for obstructing the execution of arrest warrants or searches of the presidential residence.

In its communication to the defence ministry, the CIO cautioned that any military personnel interfering with the arrest or search operations could face criminal charges or liability for damages if harm occurs.

The Presidential Security Service received a similar warning. The CIO pointed out that personnel obstructing investigators could risk losing their public servant status, face restrictions on future employment, and encounter pension-related penalties.

However, the agency assured that employees refusing unlawful orders to block the enforcement of warrants would not face any disadvantages.

President Yoon has remained barricaded in his hillside compound in Seoul for weeks, surrounded by his Presidential Security Service team and hundreds of conservative supporters. Yoon’s backers have vowed to shield him from arrest, forming a human barricade outside the gates.

Yoon has labeled the arrest warrant “illegal and invalid,” defending his actions in declaring martial law as legitimate. Addressing his supporters, he vowed, “I will fight until the end.”

Concerns among Yoon’s supporters have heightened over the possibility of his detention if he leaves the residence to attend impeachment hearings. Meanwhile, rival protesters, braving freezing conditions, continue to demand his arrest.
