Court orders Reno Omokri’s arrest

A Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the arrest and detention of Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, in connection with allegations of defamation against Dunamis Church Pastor Paul Enenche.

The court’s decision, issued on January 13, 2025, also applies to former Dunamis Church Pastor Abraham Daniel and two individuals identified as Alexander Enenche and Peter Enenche.

The remand order was granted following an ex-parte motion filed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The motion requested the detention of the accused individuals to facilitate ongoing investigations.

Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna directed that the respondents be detained until their arraignment and prosecution.

The court scheduled their next appearance for January 30, 2025.

The legal battle traces back to a petition filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Patrick O. Okolo.

The petition accused Reno Omokri, along with others, of cyberbullying, criminal defamation, spreading false information, and inciting public unrest.

Reports indicate that these accusations stem from disagreements following Pastor Abraham Daniel’s resignation from Dunamis Church.

Sources revealed that Pastor Daniel left the church after over a decade of service due to conflicts with Pastor Paul Enenche.

Following his resignation, Daniel reportedly faced threats through calls and social media.

Allegedly, these incidents culminated in a car accident, after which plainclothes officers arrested him on Pastor Enenche’s orders.

Pastor Daniel claimed he was pressured to apologize to Pastor Enenche and delete his social media posts about the church.

Despite complying, a purported gentleman’s agreement to compensate Daniel for his losses was reportedly breached, further straining relations.

The police are also investigating allegations involving Omokri, including social media posts about church matters.

The accused individuals are expected to face trial after the conclusion of the investigation.

A dramatic video has captured the moment a brave bystander disarmed one of the gunmen involved in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting on Sunday, December 14, preventing further bloodshed as chaos unfolded along the crowded shoreline.

The footage shows a man wearing a white T-shirt calmly approaching an armed attacker from behind as the suspect raises his weapon. In a swift move, the bystander grabs the gun, and after a brief struggle, successfully pulls it away from the shooter.

As the assailant falls to the ground, the civilian briefly points the weapon in his direction but does not fire. The gunman then staggers away, while the bystander places the firearm against a nearby tree before stepping back. The courageous intervention came amid a violent attack in which two gunmen opened fire on beachgoers during a crowded evening at Bondi Beach. Gunshots echoed across the area, triggering panic as hundreds of people fled the sand and surrounding streets.

Police later confirmed that at least 10 people, including one of the attackers, were k!lled in the shooting. The second suspect was taken into custody. Authorities also said at least 12 others were injured, among them two police officers who were shot during the incident.

Witnesses told local media that the attackers exited a vehicle on Campbell Parade near the Bondi Pavilion at about 6:40pm before opening fire. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, with dozens of ambulances and helicopter paramedics deployed to assist victims. Paramedics treated multiple casualties on site, while others were transported to nearby hospitals.

One mother described scenes of terror as panic broke out while her daughters were at the beach with friends. Videos circulating online show large crowds running for safety as gunfire rang out.
