NDLEA apprehends Hair stylist and dispatch rider peddling Cannabis-laced chin-chin to students

Operatives of the National Dr*g Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 20-year-old hair stylist, Josephine Odunu and a 30-year-old dispatch rider, Edesemi Ikporo, for selling and distributing illicit drug-laced chin-chin to school students and at social parties in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

A press statement by the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi said NDLEA officers on patrol around Opolo area of Yenagoa had on Sunday 10th March 2024 intercepted the motorcycle dispatch rider, Edesemi and recovered 200 grammes of chin-chin produced with cannabis sativa, which he was on a mission to deliver to a buyer.

He said a swift follow up operation led to the arrest of the hairdresser, Josephine, who distributes the dr*gged chin-chin from the salon where she works in Kpansia area of Yenagoa, the search of the salon led to the recovery of 3 kilogrammes bringing the total weight of the illicit substance seized from the duo to 3.2 kilogrammes.

He noted that investigations revealed that they distributed the chin-chin often laced with cannabis and tramadol to students and at birthday parties, with Edesemi handling the delivery to buyers, Josephine is a major distributor to a wanted suspect who produced the dr*gged chin-chin.

In the same vein, NDLEA operatives in Adamawa state last Wednesday arrested two wanted suspects, Ajim Samuel (aka Boss), 30, and Davidson Joshua (aka Dantala), 36, while on their way from Onitsha, Anambra state where they had gone to buy a consignment of tramadol containing 14,428 pills of the opioid which they tucked in the body compartments of their black Honda Civic car marked YLA 623 SL.

They were nabbed along Numan-Jalingo road, recovered from them were 21 grammes of cannabis and monetary exhibits totaling N19,280.

The former Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency in Equatorial Guinea, Baltasar Engonga, has been remanded in Malabo’s Black Beach Prison.

The former anti-graft chief was being investigated for alleged fraud when it was discovered that he had allegedly recorded over 400 s*x tapes involving the wives of prominent figures in the country.

This led to the arrest of the 54-year-old economist.

Equatorial Guinea’s President, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, also dismissed Engonga.

According to Decree No. 118/2024, dated 4th November, the dismissal was due to “irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct for the performance of public duties.”

A viral video surfaced on social media on Friday, Nov. 8, showing Engonga’s hands and legs cuffed during a court appearance.

Confirming the situation, French online blog Afrikmatin reported that Engonga, who was officially removed from his role on November 6, 2024, was subsequently chained and transferred to Malabo Central Prison. He faces charges of corruption and embezzlement.

At least 15 people were k!lled in a fierce clash between residents of the Mera community and members of a new terrorist group, Lakurawa, in Kebbi State.

Military authorities have confirmed the emergence of the Lakurawa group, which reportedly has links to ISIS operating in the Sahel. The attack occurred on Friday in Mera village, located in the Augie local government area of Kebbi State, as the terrorists attempted to raid the community to rustle livestock.

Community members resisted the assault, and a violent confrontation ensued.

“A herder ran to the community and raised the alarm. Local residents responded and engaged the terrorists in a fight, which led to the de@ths of 15 people, with many others injured,” a local source said.

The locals reportedly succeeded in k!lling some terrorists and injuring others, although survivors among the attackers managed to carry away their casualties as they retreated.

Kebbi State’s Deputy Governor, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police and the Emir of Argungu, visited Mera to offer condolences.

Black Box Recovered The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau NSIB in collaboration with other search and rescue partners have recovered the black box of the sikorsky helicopter which ditched in atlantic ocean off the coast of bonny finima on the 24th of october 2024.

The Director General of the NSIB Alex Badeh says the retrieved box is crucial in helping investigators to get to the root cause of the accident for critical and in-depth analysis.

He says as of today 3 individuals remain unaccounted for while investigation is still on going.
