Adeleke’s Media Aide Drags DSS To Court Over Threat Of Arrest

Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed has approached a Federal High Court in Osogbo to initiate contempt of court proceedings against State Security Service, its agents and Femi Oyetola, son of the former governor of Osun State.

Rasheed through his lawyer Barr J.A Ayanyemi, had approached the court to obtain a notice of caution against court contempt, sequence to fresh invitation and alleged harassment by the state security service.

In the suite marked FHC/OS/CS/89/2024, Rasheed said despite the initial originating summons and court order restraining the three respondents from inviting, arresting or detaining him, the DSS through its agents are still harassing and threatening him from exercising his fundamental rights.

Olawale Rasheed and Sarafa Ibrahim, the special assistant to the governor on Print Media had approached the court and sought the protection and enforcement of their fundamental human rights against the director general of the State Security Service, its Osun State director and Femi Oyetola.

In the suit registered on April 25, 2024, Olawale alleged Femi Oyetola was being embittered with the loss of his father and their political group at the last Osun governorship election, and as the mouthpiece of the incumbent governor who upstaged Femi’s father, he is being maliciously hunted by members of the opposition APC to trample upon his fundamental rights.

‎In an interview via MIC On Podcast, PDP chieftain Segun Sowunmi expressed his long-standing concern over the imbalance in Nigeria’s political leadership, particularly the continued exclusion of the Southeast from the presidency.

His reflection was rooted in a personal sense of fairness and national unity, which, he revealed, had often restrained his own presidential ambitions.

‎Sowunmi recounted how Nigeria’s leadership history—from Olusegun Obasanjo to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Muhammadu Buhari, and now Bola Tinubu—has excluded the Southeast.

He believes that for Nigeria’s democracy to truly mature and for conversations around leadership to evolve beyond ethnicity, a President of Igbo extraction must emerge.

According to him, only then can the country move past the persistent rhetoric of ethnic origins in leadership debates.

‎He expressed hope that Peter Obi, as a prominent figure from the Southeast, would consolidate his political strengths, not just for his personal ambition, but for the broader goal of national inclusiveness and stability.

Sowunmi stressed that Nigeria’s founding structure as a federation of three regions—Eastern, Western, and Northern, should reflect in its leadership history.

‎According to reports from Vanguard on Saturday, April 19, the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what it describes as his refusal to temporarily delegate presidential authority to Vice President Kashim Shettima during a recent trip abroad.

‎In a statement issued by the Council’s National President, Isah Abubakar, the youth group condemned the alleged action as a violation of constitutional guidelines and a disregard for democratic practice.

Abubakar noted that the 1999 Constitution clearly outlines the process for the transfer of power when the president is absent or unable to perform his duties, emphasizing that ignoring this provision sets a dangerous precedent.
