Iranian state media reports that the crash occurred near Jolfa in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. However, it is unclear if Raisi and others on board with him survived the crash.

According to the report, Hossein Amirabdollahian, foreign minister; Malek Rahmati, governor of East Azarbaijan province; and Hojjatoleslam Al Hashem, Tabriz Friday prayer leader, were also on board the helicopter.

Raisi was reported to be returning from a ceremony to open a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when the helicopter crash landed in the Varzaqan region. State-linked media said three helicopters were in the Iranian president’s convoy, and the two others made it back safely.

Amaka Clears Air on Toronto Police Interaction, Denies Arrest Claims. Amaka has refuted recent media reports, claiming she was arrested and detained by Toronto police. According to Amaka, she was not charged with any crime. Instead, she was invited by the police following a report from the Nigerian government. During her interaction with Canadian authorities, Amaka presented video evidence demonstrating that her actions were in response to threats against the Igbo nation in Nigeria from some people of Benin and Yoruba descent. After reviewing the evidence, the police concluded that she had no further questions to answer and allowed her to leave.

At the same time, the Canadian government used the opportunity to call on the Nigerian government to address its internal tribal issues through peaceful and amicable solutions.
