A Former Governor Of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke, Writes:
*When I See Public Office Holders Misbehaving, I Used To Have This Thought,*
*”Probably They Do Not Have a Good Wife/Husband or a Good Marriage”*
*As governor, I was on call 24/7 sometimes.*
*I got very angry and could take my anger on anyone.*
*So, my chief of protocol bore the brunt one day.*
*I had a reception for guests and he placed them in rooms, not the way I would have done it, but he didn’t do anything wrong.*
*He used his own judgment.*
*I would have done it the other way, but I over reacted.*
*I spoke very harsh to him.*
*While I was doing this, my wife walked in and didn’t say a word.*
*She came in, did some other things in my office and left.*
*When I got back home in the evening, I’d forgotten about it. It’s just a normal event in the day.*
*My wife went on her knees in front of me, looked straight into my eyes like a penitent sinner and said, “The way you spoke to this guy was wrong and we have to go and apologise to him.”*
*She said I had no reason to speak to anyone like that.*
*I said, “What! He did this…” and she interrupted me, “Yes, I heard everything.*
*”The way you would have done it was different, but he didn’t do a bad thing. He used his discretion.* *So, what are you going to do? You have destroyed his self esteem.* *Tomorrow, he is not going to do anything discretionally.*
*He would wait for orders and then you will get irritated at that. You have made him lose his self-confidence and that is wrong. You need to go and apologise to him. Why should you speak to someone like that?* *Because you are governor?”*
*I ignored her, stood up and went into the bedroom, still fuming. As she will always do if she wants to have her way, my wife followed me into the bedroom and went on her knees again to plead the cause of a man as if he had begged her to plead his case.*
*”You have to do it this night and not tomorrow” because I kept saying I would do it tomorrow.*
*Onarie, still on her knees and almost in tears, insisted and said, “No, tonight. That man is not going to sleep well and so you do not have the right to sleep well when he was not sleeping well.”*
*Clearly defeated, I got into the car and we drove to his house.*
*His gate man froze when he discovered I was the one. In his confusion, he did not know how to properly open the gate till Onarie told him to take two deep breaths before attempting to open the door again!*
*We were ushered into the living room by an equally confused maid who had to stumble over chairs.*
*His wife turned in.*
*They were about to go to bed.*
*She was in her night gown.*
*She saw me and was scared with the expression of, ‘Okay, you have come to fire my husband finally’.*
*The guy came downstairs, petrified as my wife and I walked into the private living room.*
*The wife wanted to get up and leave.*
*I told the guy I came to apologise for my rude and harsh behaviour towards him and I told him am sorry.*
*They all got emotional but I got relieved.*
*It was like a heavy load had been taken off me.*
*I still get upset with things going up wrong, but I don’t get to a point I feel I am too big to say sorry.*
*And am learning to treat people better.*
*You can be referred to as “Your Excellency” today, but, for the best, it will only last eight years.*
*Senator?*
*Minister?*
*It is not forever!*
*Permanent Sec? It is still not permanent and we all know it’s just a title and not a life long position.*
*Director?*
*CEO?*
*DG?*
*etc.*
*Life is a stage, a platform for services unto God.*
*So let everyone take heed. Forgive and have regard for Human beings.*
*Moral Lessons.*
*Chose a spouse that have a soft and forgiving heart not a callous one*
*Respect other people’s opinion and have a listening ear*
*Have it in your mind that tomorrow is pregnant and no one know what it will deliver*
*Respect women opinions and fine tune it if need be because they are the Architect of our home.*
*Finally never belittle anybody in life because no one knows tomorrow*
*God bless you richly. Feel free to share it if you are blessed…*

The management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has announced a shutdown of the institution.
The announcement on Wednesday is coming after a violent confrontation involving suspected cultists near the institution’s gate on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly led to serious injuries and fears of a fatality during the clash between two rival cult groups.
Ekwutosblog had reported that a disturbing video shared on Facebook by a user, Lamina Omotoyosi, filmed during the violence, showed a man in a white shirt striking another individual with a hammer as two others stood nearby.
In the aftermath of the incident, officers from the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command were deployed to restore calm around the institution.
Dr Tope Abiola, Dean of Students’ Affairs, confirmed that the violence occurred just outside the school premises and noted that several people were injured.
He further explained that the critically injured individual was a former student of the polytechnic.
“We were inside the campus when gunshots rang out. From what we gathered, one person was critically injured.
“He completed his National Diploma about two years ago. One of the other victims sustained injuries from stray bullets,” Abiola added.
The Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said all injured individuals were receiving treatment at a medical facility.
He did not confirm any deaths resulting from the clash.
Reacting to the unrest, the polytechnic’s management ordered all students to proceed on a one-week mid-semester break, starting Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The Registrar, Abiodun Oloyede, in a memorandum dated April 9, 2025, also announced the indefinite postponement of the matriculation ceremony earlier scheduled for Thursday.
Students were urged to use the break to pay outstanding fees and finalise their registration, with the management warning that no further appeal shall be entertained.
The internal memo stated: “Given the pleas and appeals received from some set of students who have not been able to pay their school’s fees and have not completed their registration formalities, Management has magnanimously granted a one week mid-semester break from Thursday, April 10 to Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
“This is to allow all defaulting students to pay their school fees and complete their registration procedure. Consequently, the Matriculation Ceremony for the 2024/2025 Academic Session, earlier scheduled to hold tomorrow, Thursday, April 10 2025, has been postponed.
“A new date shall be announced in due course. All students are therefore enjoined to avail themselves of this break and pay all their fees and complete their registration as no further appeal shall be entertained.”

A Nigerian woman, Ngozi, has said she would marry another woman for her husband if they are not able to have children after ten years of marriage and it’s been medically certified that the fault is from her.
She equally said that she will suggest getting pregnant by another man if the fault is from her husband and if he refuses, then the marriage is over.
Ngozi, who stated this in a Facebook post on Tuesday, said if one truly loves a spouse, he or she would want them to have a child even if it’s from another man or woman.
“10 yrs of marriage and no child…Medically certified the fault is from me, I will marry a woman for my husband or support him to marry another and then adopt a child of my own!!,” she wrote.
And if the fault is from my husband, I will suggest getting pregnant by one mgbada or everybody go find their way!!!
I think it’s utter selfishness to use your awilo and spoil another person reggae just because of marriage!!!
“I will not ADOPT when am sure I can get pregnant and carry my child to full term just because my Spouse is unable to biologically have one”
“I think that’s too much of a sacrifice to make”
Why will I adopt another blood when one of us can make a baby”? If we have no child after 10 years of marriage and the fault is from my husband, I will suggest getting pregnant by another man – Nigerian woman says
