The Super Eagles have finally landed safely back in Nigeria after their harrowing experience in Libya. The team had been stranded at the Al Abraq Airport for over 15 hours without access to basic necessities like food, water, or a place to rest.

Ekwutosblog gathered that this  ordeal began when their flight was unexpectedly diverted to a remote airport, three hours away from their original destination in Benghazi.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) reported that the team was left unattended at the airport, with no reception team or vehicles provided by the host Libyan Football Federation ². The players were forced to sleep on benches, and photos of their challenging situation went viral, sparking widespread condemnation.

In response to this treatment, the Super Eagles decided to boycott their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Libya, citing concerns for their safety and well-being.

The Nigerian government and the NFF collaborated to ensure the team’s safe and timely return to Nigeria.

Thankfully, the team has now arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano State, bringing an end to this difficult episode.
