Owerri—In a groundbreaking move set to revolutionize waste management in the metropolis, the Eastern Waste Management Company (EWAMAC) has announced the launch of its innovative Door2Door Waste Disposal service in Owerri, starting December 4th. This was disclosed today in Owerri by the company’s Managing Director, Uche Njoku, during a press briefing with newsmen.

Speaking on the initiative, Njoku highlighted that the Door2Door Waste Disposal system is designed to eliminate the burdensome task of residents trekking to refuse dumps to dispose of their waste. Instead, the service introduces a convenient, home-based waste collection method that promises to enhance hygiene and ease of living.

“The Door2Door service will phase out the traditional public waste disposal method, which has often been plagued by inefficiency and health hazards. With this new system, residents can enjoy a cleaner and healthier environment as their waste will be collected directly from their homes,” Njoku explained.

Benefits of the Door2Door Waste Disposal Initiative

The new waste disposal system is poised to deliver several significant benefits to residents and the broader community:

1. Improved Public Health: By eliminating public dumpsites, which are notorious for breeding disease-causing pests and emitting foul odors, the Door2Door system will significantly reduce health risks associated with improper waste management.

2. Enhanced Environmental Cleanliness: Regular and systematic waste collection will help maintain cleaner streets, gutters, and neighborhoods, contributing to a more aesthetically pleasing city.

3. Convenience for Residents: With waste being collected directly from homes, residents, particularly the elderly and disabled, will no longer face the challenge of transporting refuse to distant dumpsites.

4. Job Creation: The service is expected to create new employment opportunities for waste management personnel tasked with door-to-door collection, driving economic growth in the state.

5. Reduced Carbon Footprint: By discouraging individual trips to dumpsites, the system will help reduce carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Njoku further emphasized EWAMAC’s commitment to ensuring a seamless transition to the new system. “Our team is working tirelessly to ensure that the infrastructure and workforce are ready to meet the demands of this innovative service,” he stated.

Residents of Owerri have expressed optimism about the initiative, with many lauding EWAMAC for addressing the long-standing challenges of waste management in the city.

As the countdown to December 4th begins, all eyes are on EWAMAC to deliver on its promise of transforming Owerri into a model city for effective and sustainable waste management practices.

Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has admitted that Barack Obama was “not financially sound” when she met him.

The couple met in 1988 when Barack took a job at a law firm in Chicago where Michelle was already working.

Speaking on the podcast she hosts with her brother, Craig, Michelle spent much of their most recent episode discussing the importance of having a partner with financial stability.

Talking with British author Jay Shetty, Craig put the question directly to his famous sister.

He asked, “Would you be attracted to a guy who’s not financially sound when you meet him?”

Michelle immediately responded, “Uh, I married one.”

Craig then laughed and admitted to his sister that he’d set her up.

“Don’t you like that alley-oop I just threw you? In basketball, you just point—you don’t even have to say it,” he said.

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to the comment by the Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi, that Nigerians should defend themselves.

Ejimakor said Kanu was detained and is being prosecuted for making the same comment Ajayi made.

He disclosed that the same remark from Kanu led to the proscription of IPOB and hounding of Igbos as terrorists.

On Tuesday, the DSS DG said Nigerians must take responsibility for their own security, as the military, police, and intelligence agencies do not have the capacity to protect every community from terrorist attacks in Nigeria.

Speaking at a public engagement, the DSS DG made reference to past incidents in Bauchi State, where local communities successfully fought off Boko Haram insurgents without waiting for security forces.

Ajayi urged Nigerians to rethink their approach to self-defence, emphasising that communities must serve as the “first line of defence” against terrorists and other criminals

Reacting, Ejimakor posted on X: “Defend yourselves” is the same thing MAZI NNAMDI KANU said that was twisted to justify his extraordinary rendition & charging him for ‘incitement of violence.’

“It’s also the same thing that led to the proscription of IPOB & the hounding of young Igbos as terrorists. #Injustice.”
