Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer on Sunday took aim at Leandro Trossard during Arsenal’s penalty shoot-out defeat to ten-man Manchester United in the FA Cup third round tie.

Shearer accused the Belgium forward of lacking ‘hunger’ after Man United defender Matthijs de Ligt’s superb extra-time clearance.

De Ligt had denied Trossard with a magnificent intervention on the line and the Dutchman was seen celebrating the clearance wildly during extra-time.

Man United eliminated Arsenal from the FA Cup, thanks to a 5-3 penalty win after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Bruno Fernandes and Gabriel Magalhaes scored the goals during normal time at Emirates Stadium as Man United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır saved Martin Odegaard’s penalty spot.

“De Ligt, coming in right at the last second. He just manages to clear it away, brilliant defending from him,” Shearer said on BBC’s commentary of the game.

“It’s great defending from De Ligt. Having said that, if I’m in that position and I’m Trossard I’m taking the lot and I’m getting on the end of that.”

“There’s no way I’m letting the defender get on the end of that. 1He’s got to get on, he’s got to show more hunger to get on the end of it and show the hunger that De Ligt shows.

“He’s got to have that and a bit more to put him and the ball in the back of the net.”

“It’s better that I keep quiet, that’s all. Our club, like all members of La Liga until this resolution, has respected the rules of economic control and will continue to respect them,” he said.

“Indeed, in order to be competitive at the level we have reached in recent years, we have decided to proceed with various capital increases, despite the enormous effort that this implies.”
