Fatal motor accident claims eight lives in Imo

A terrible motor accident involving a Toyota Camry with registration number, EPE 541 JO and Hyundai Santa FE with registration number, AAA212 CD, on Sunday, claimed lives of eight people.

The accident, which occurred at Amala, Ngor-Okpala LGA of Imo State, claimed occupants of both vehicles.

Ekwutosblog reports that police operatives from Ngor-Okpala Divisional headquarters swiftly arrived the scene.

According to the spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, the remains of the deceased were immediately evacuated and deposited in the mortuary, while the vehicles were evacuated from the road to ease off traffic.

He stated that the command had launched an investigation to unravel the cause of the accident and to identify the families of the deceased.

“Pictorial evidence has also been documented to aid further inquiries into the cause of the accident,” he hinted.

Following the development, the Police Commissioner in the State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has cautioned motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, pointing out that the two factors remained major causes of road accidents.

He urges all road users to drive responsibly, observe traffic rules and exercise patience while on the road.

“Every driver has a duty to protect not only their lives but also those of other road users by adhering to established road safety regulations,” the CP advised.

He enjoined members of the public to assist the police by providing any useful information that may aid in identifying the victims.

“Anyone with relevant details should contact the nearest police station,” he stated.

War: Ukraine loses 235 soldiers in 24 hours

No fewer than 235 soldiers have been lost in the past day by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk direction.

The Russian Defence Ministry made the claim Monday in a statement made available to newsmen.

According to NAN, Ukraine has so far, lost 74,245 service people and 406 tanks during the offensive in the Kursk direction, the ministry also said.

The ministry also stated that in the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian armed forces lost up to 235 service people, an armored personnel carrier; three combat armored vehicles, 14 cars, and four field artillery weapons.

Others include four mortars and a BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket system.

Ekwutosblog earlier reported that two Russian missiles on Sunday struck the heart of the city of Sumy in Ukraine, killing at least 31 persons including children.

France President, Emmanuel Macron, while reacting to the sad incident, condemned the development, stating that France is working towards imposing a ceasefire on Russia.

Bandits abduct resident in hours after cleric’s kidnapping in Katsina

Suspected bandits on Sunday night invaded the Tamarke community in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, kidnapping one resident, barely a day after the abduction of a prominent Islamic cleric in a separate attack in Ƙankara LGA.

This development was contained in a post by Katsina-based security analyst Bakatsine on Monday.

According to the analyst, the attackers stormed the Tamarke community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically before whisking away a local resident to an unknown destination.

“Yesterday night, bandits invaded the Tamarke community in Bakori LGA, Katsina State and abducted one person. Just less than 24hrs after the abduction of Sheikh Mustapha Aliyu Unguwar Mai-Kawo in Ƙankara LGA,” Bakatsine wrote.

Troops rescue 16 kidnapped passengers on Plateau, Jos highway

Troops of 3 Division, Operation Safe Haven, OPSH, have rescued 16 passengers kidnapped along the Jos – Mangu road in Plateau State.

Media Information Officer Operation Safe Haven, Major Zhakom in a statement issued Monday revealed that the rescue operation began when troops conducting Operation Lafiyan Jama’a discovered an empty vehicle abandoned by the roadside at Mararaban Kantoma in Mangu Local Government Area of the State at about 9pm local time on 13 April 2025.

He added that the troops immediately searched the nearby bushes to trace the occupants of the vehicle suspected to have been kidnapped.

The kidnappers, on sighting the troops, opened fire, but the criminals were overwhelmed by superior firepower forcing them to abandon the victims and flee.

Zhakom added: “Troops exploited the general area and rescued all 16 abducted passengers which included 6 children.

“Troops administered first aid to some of the rescued victims who sustained minor injuries during the incident.

“Thereafter, troops escorted the victims to safety to continue their journey to Jos Metropolis.”

Meanwhile, Zhakom noted that the troops are on the lookout for the fleeing kidnappers suspected to have sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter with troops.
