The Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma at the graduation ceremony of 15,000 Imo Youths from the Cohort 2 training of the SkillUp Imo Project recently held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri announced that his Government has concluded arrangements with some companies in canada and europe to employ 4,000 Imo youths to be trained on specified digital skill, as expatriates.

The Governor said that the companies have sent specified digital skills they would want the SkillUp Imo Project to train Imo youths on. And that after the training and certification, the companies will automatically absorb 4,000 of the successfully trained and certified imo youths.

Governor Hope Uzodimma also announced that the Government of Imo State will take care of the flight tickets and initial living expenses of the 4000 successful Imo Youths.

This simply implies that 4,000 Imo youths in the next few months will be gainfully employed as digital tech expatriates in canada and europe and not as security guards or other forms of menial jobs.

Current data reveals that an average digital tech worker in canada earns over $57,000 annually and $4,776 monthly. When converted to naira using $1 to N500 rate, will give N2.3million naira monthly.

Consequently, this will imply that Imo State will experience a surge in diaspora remittances which is projected to be about $68million annually assuming that a minimum of 30% of their annual earnings are remitted back home in Imo State. This will greatly impact positively on the state’s GDP and GDP Per Capital.

Likewise, what is most important in Governor Hope Uzodimma initiative of securing digital tech jobs for Imo Youths in canada and europe as expatriates implies that 4,000 households in Imo State will have atleast one high earning individual in the diaspora earning about N4million naira monthly. This will mean that 4,000 households will be eternally lifted out of poverty.

Moreso, the legal exportation of 4000 skilled labour will mean that the scarce resources will have a lesser population to carter for hence improving the reach of government welfare. There will also be the increased transfer of knowledge and technology and improved diasporal engagements and investments.

Therefore, contrary to the wrong impressions been created by naysayers, the willfully ignorant folks and mischief makers in their futile attempt to downplay the enormous benefits of having 4000 Imo Youths gain employment as digital tech expatriates in foreign countries, it is evident that this move by Governor Hope Uzodimma if fully implemented will have a huge positive impact on the economy of Imo State and the individual lives of Imo people both in the short term and in the long term.

Joseph Johnson, commissioner of information and communication in Rivers state, says the actions of the house of assembly against Siminalayi Fubara, the governor, could bring government operations to a standstill.

His comments follow the assembly’s decision on Monday to serve a notice of “gross misconduct” on Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The notice, which was signed by 26 lawmakers, is seen as the first step towards impeachment.

In a statement issued shortly after the notice was served, Johnson warned that the ongoing political crisis could have severe economic consequences for residents, particularly civil servants and retirees.

“It is glaringly clear that with the current actions of the House, the dire consequences and harsh realities that the civil servants, retirees and people of the state will face unimaginable economic hardships, as the government will be unable to pay salaries, pensions and other emoluments as well as perform other obligations at the end of the month, as both the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation have been ordered to seize revenue allocations to the state until its judgment is fully implemented,” he said.

“The collateral damages of the actions of the legislative arm of government in Rivers will be so severe as non-release of warehoused revenues due the state from the Federation Account will ultimately ground the operation of all sectors of the government.”

Johnson said Fubara was willing to resubmit the 2025 budget and fully comply with the supreme court’s ruling to maintain peace in the state.

He urged the lawmakers to reconsider their actions, warning that continued tensions could lead to avoidable economic, social, and political crises for the people of Rivers state.

El-Rufai alleged that Sani collects 40 percent of kickbacks from contractors.

He disclosed this in an interview with Freedom Radio Kaduna, yesterday.

According to El-Rufai: “I have never stolen a kobo from anyone. If any contractor has given me a bribe, let him come forward.

“When the ICPC invited many contractors, they testified that they had never met me. Contracts worth billions were executed without me ever meeting the contractors—I worked only through commissioners and permanent secretaries.

“Uba goes to Abuja with contract documents, offering them to contractors in exchange for a 40 per cent kickback. We know what is happening.
