I will continue to speak for Nigerians – Gov Bala Mohammed blasts Presidency

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has slammed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media, Sunday Dare, for what he described as “unprofessional, disrespectful, and divisive rhetoric.”

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado on Sunday, Bala Mohammed’s camp accused Dare of turning his role into a platform for political attacks rather than fostering unity and promoting constructive dialogue.

The statement issued on Sunday, titled “Enough is Enough”, did not hold back in calling out the Presidency for its alleged intolerance to criticism.

Governor Mohammed’s team dragged Dare for releasing his remarks during Juma’at prayers and Armed Forces Remembrance Day, calling it “poor timing” and “a disgrace to the solemnity of the events.”

“Instead of focusing on honouring Nigeria’s fallen heroes, Dare chose to prioritise political mudslinging. Is this what the Tinubu administration represents?” the statement questioned.

The Bauchi governor accused the Presidency of fostering a toxic culture that stifles criticism.

“This administration has shown increasing intolerance towards constructive feedback,” the statement alleged.

“Instead of addressing Governor Bala Mohammed’s genuine concerns about the tax reform bills, Sunday Dare chose personal attacks and diversionary tactics. Is this how a democracy is supposed to work?”

The governor’s camp also threw a subtle jab at Tinubu, reminding Nigerians of his days as a pro-democracy activist who boldly criticised military dictators and even challenged President Obasanjo.

“If Tinubu could criticise the system and rise to power, why is his administration trying to muzzle voices like Bala Mohammed who are only doing the same?” the statement argued.

The statement ended with a warning to Sunday Dare: “We respect the Office of the President, but respect does not mean silence. Governor Bala Mohammed will continue to speak up for Nigerians, whether they like it or not. Enough is enough.”

DAILY POST reports that Mohammed and the presidency have been engaged in a heated exchange over the tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly.

In December, Mohammed, who chairs the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, criticised the bills, alleging that they favour one region.

The governor claimed the bills amounted to “calls for anarchy” and warned that President Bola Tinubu would see “our real colour” if the legislation were passed.

Subsequently, the presidency asked Mohammed to withdraw the comments against the president.

Sunday Dare, the president’s special adviser on media and public communication, said Mohammed’s remarks were “inflammatory ” and “direct threats toward the federal government.”

About 24 hours later, Mohammed fired back, saying he stood by his comments and would not be threatened.

Mohammed criticised the presidency’s approach to the tax reform debate, urging it to avoid arrogance and listen to the concerns of Nigerians.

In a statement issued last Friday, Dare asked the governor to stop playing “irresponsible politics” and focus on governance and alleviating poverty in Bauchi.

Dare said the Tinubu administration is focused on development and how to improve the overall well-being of Nigerians.

Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, described the House of Representatives member from Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Imo Ikenga Ugochinyere, as a political “Hushpuppi.”

Olayinka said Ugochinyere has been silent over the appointment of 23 administrators to preside over the local government areas of Rivers State.

Recall that the chairmen elected were suspended following the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu in the state.

The emergency rule was declared due to the political crisis between Wike and Governor Sim Fubara who was also suspended for six months.

Amid the crisis with Wike, Ugochinyere has backed Fubara and the suspended administration in Rivers State.

However, Olayinka wondered why the lawmaker has been silent over the appointment of local government administrators.

Posting on X, Olayinka wrote: “We told Fubara that Ugochinyere is a Political Hushpuppi, he (Fubara) didn’t listen. Where is Ugochinyere today?

“Won’t Ugochinyere do Live TV Press Conference on this appointment of LG Sole Administrators and SIEC members in Rivers State?

“Abi why is @IkengaImo, Spokesperson of Opposition Lawmakers suddenly silent like this?”

Owerri, Nigeria – March 21, 2025

In a decisive move reflecting the Imo State Government’s commitment to infrastructural development, the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Physical Planning has issued a public notice declaring its intent to acquire a vast parcel of land measuring approximately 500.008 hectares in Nkarahia, Umuapu, located in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.

The land, known as “OGBURUZO OGWU”, has been earmarked for compulsory acquisition under Sections 28 and 29 of the Land Use Act of 1978 — a provision that empowers state governments to take over lands for projects deemed beneficial to the public.

In a public notice referenced LOG 1588/15 and dated March 21, 2025, the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu (KSC), stated unequivocally that all interested parties or persons with developments on the affected land must, within six (6) weeks from the date of this announcement, submit a formal statement of interest. This must be accompanied by documented evidence of ownership or development to the Ministry’s office located at Block 7, State Secretariat Complex, Owerri.

“The Government of Imo State is ready to pay compensation to anyone who has verifiable interest in the said parcel of land,” the notice reads.

This notice, issued under the authority of Governor Hope Odidika Uzodimma (CON), signals a bold and determined stride by the government in its efforts to expand development footprints across the state. It also serves as a clarion call to landowners and stakeholders in the affected area to come forward promptly and regularize their claims.

The government’s tone is firm: failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe may result in the forfeiture of any potential compensation or recognition of claims.

Analysts believe this acquisition could be tied to a major project that would transform the economic or infrastructural landscape of Ohaji/Egbema and the state at large, though official details of the intended use are yet to be disclosed.

As the clock ticks on the six-week deadline, the ball is now in the court of those with legitimate claims to act swiftly, lest their silence be taken as forfeiture. The Imo State Government, it seems, is not waiting.
