…. _State Party Chairman of Imo APC Joins Dignitaries at Solemn Burial Ceremony_

Date:24-08-2024

In a show of solidarity and respect, government appointees and party members within the All Progressives Congress (APC) gathered today to pay their final respects to the late Christopher Udogu Ohizu, the former Sole Administrator (SOLAD) of Ideato North Local Government Area, who was tragically assassinated last year. The burial mass took place at St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Chaplaincy, Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, with a significant turnout of dignitaries and members of the present 3R administration.

The event, which began at 10 a.m., was marked by a solemn funeral mass, followed by a funeral procession from the church to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) along Akanchawa/Udenwa Road, New Owerri.

Leading the delegation of APC members was the Imo State APC Chairman, Hon. MacDonald Ebere, PhD, who played a prominent role in the ceremony. In his address, Hon. Ebere expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of Late Christopher Udogu Ohizu, describing him as a loyal and dedicated “Shared Prosperity Apostle” of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration. He emphasized the tragic nature of Ohizu’s death, noting that it symbolized the plight of many party faithfuls who have lost their lives due to the violence perpetuated by enemies of the state.

Hon. Ebere also took the opportunity to commend Governor Hope Uzodimma for his unwavering efforts to combat insecurity in Imo State. He praised the Governor’s proactive security measures, which have significantly reduced violence and unrest in the state. Hon. Ebere urged those who seek to destabilize the state to embrace dialogue as the only viable solution to their grievances, stating, “No government will ever allow violence to thrive in any state or under any guise.”

The burial of Late Christopher Udogu Ohizu was not just a moment of mourning, but also a time for the APC to reflect on the sacrifices dogged members of Imo APC have made for the survival of the party, taking into account the huge vacuum left in the hearts and minds of those left behind by the deaths of party members in the past. The party leadership reiterated its commitment in playing its part in the sustenance of peace and stability in Imo State.

As the funeral procession concluded, there was a shared sense of loss but also of resolve among the attendees. The APC members reaffirmed their solidarity with the family of the deceased and their commitment to the ideals for which he stood.

The Imo State APC, under the leadership of Hon. MacDonald Ebere, continues to stand firm in its support for Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration and its efforts to secure a peaceful and prosperous future for all citizens of the state.

May the gentle soul of Late Christopher Udogu Ohizu (HARDWAY) rest in perfect peace. Amen.

NLC announces indefinite strike action

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has ordered its members in states that are yet to commence the implementation of the new minimum wage to commence an indefinite strike, beginning from December 1, 2024.

The directive is part of the resolutions of the NLC after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the weekend.

“The NEC notes with deep frustration the persistent delay and outright refusal by some state governments to implement the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act. This betrayal by certain governors and government officials across the country flies in the face of both legality and morality, as workers continue to be denied their rightful wages amidst rising economic hardship. It is a blatant disregard for the law and the lives of millions of Nigerian workers, who are being exploited by the very leaders sworn to protect them.

“The NEC therefore resolves to set up a National Minimum Wage Implementation Committee that will among others commence a nationwide assessment, mobilization and sensitization campaign, educating workers and citizens on the need to resist this assault on their dignity and rights. Furthermore, the NLC shall initiate a series of industrial actions in all non-compliant states and shall not relent until the minimum wage is fully implemented across Nigeria.

“To this end, all state Councils where the National Minimum Wage has not been fully implemented by the last day of November, 2024 have been directed to proceed on strike beginning from the 1st day of December, 2024. Nigerian workers demand justice, and justice they shall have,” the NLC communique read in part.
