Israel says Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar killed in Gaza

Ekwutos BlogIsraeli forces in Gaza killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, a chief architect of last year’s attack on Israel that sparked the war, the military said Thursday. Troops appeared to have run across him unknowingly in a battle, only to discover afterwards that a body in the rubble was Israel’s most-wanted man.
Israeli leaders celebrated his killing as a settling of scores just over a year after Hamas-led militants killed some 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped 250 others in an attack that stunned the country.
“Hamas will no longer rule Gaza. This is the start of the day after Hamas,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
Sinwar’s death is a crippling blow to Hamas, but the group has proven resilient to losses of past leaders. There was no immediate confirmation from Hamas of Sinwar’s death.
Netanyahu has said Israel will keep fighting until all the hostages are free, and that it will keep control over Gaza long enough to ensure Hamas does not rearm — an effective occupation that raises the possibility of months or even years of continued fighting.
Sinwar has been Hamas’ leader inside the Gaza Strip for years. He was elevated to the group’s top leadership position in July after his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in an apparent Israeli strike in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Found by chance
In the past months, Israel has assassinated a string of senior figures from Hamas and Hezbollah with airstrikes. Israel has claimed to have killed the head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, but the group has said he survived.
But in Sinwar’s case, troops found him by chance.
Israel military spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said that Israeli forces identified three Hamas militants running from building to building in Gaza’s southernmost city, Rafah. The troops attempted to shoot them before they ran inside a building.
The Israeli military released drone video showing what it said were Sinwar’s last moments: In a room wrecked by shelling, a man sat in a chair, his face covered with a cloth, possibly to hide his identity. The video showed the man, with one wounded hand, throwing a stick at the drone.
The military then fired an additional shell at the building, causing it to collapse and killing Sinwar, Hagari said. He said Sinwar was found with a bulletproof vest, grenades, and 40,000 shekels ($10,707).
Some of Sinwar’s DNA had previously been found in tunnels near where troops found the bodies of six hostages at the end of August, Hagari said. The military believes weeks of searches in the area had pushed Sinwar to come out of hiding, he said.
Photos circulating online showed the body of a man resembling Sinwar with a gaping head wound, dressed in a military-style vest, half buried in the rubble of a destroyed building. The security official confirmed the photos were taken by Israeli security officials at the scene. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.
The military said three militants were killed in the operation. Police said one of them was confirmed as Sinwar by dental records, fingerprints and DNA tests. Sinwar was imprisoned by Israel from the late 1980s until 2011, and during that time he underwent treatment for brain cancer — leaving Israeli authorities with extensive medical records.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant addressed Hamas fighters, saying it “is time to go out, release the hostages, raise your hands, surrender.”
‘Symbol of resistance’
In the central Gaza town of Deir al-Balah, one Palestinian woman displaced from her home in the north said she hoped Sinwar’s death would bring an end to Israel’s campaign. “What more goals do they have than that? Enough. We want to go back,” said the woman, Umm Mohammed.
Some praised Sinwar as a symbol of resistance against Israel’s decades-long occupation of the Palestinians in the West Bank. Ahmed Hamdouna, who also fled his home in northern Gaza, said Hamas would be able to replace him. “After the leader, a thousand leaders will come. After the man, a thousand men will come,” he said.

Obi Cubana’s Adopted Son Claims He’s Next of Kin – Obi Responds

Recently, Obi Cubana’s adopted son posted a video on TikTok saying he is the “next of kin” to Obi Cubana. Shortly after, Obi Cubana posted a photo of his biological son on Instagram with the caption: “Ancient and Modern. Eyes on the ball – AKA the next of kin.”
This sparked a lot of reactions online. Some people said Obi Cubana was being petty, while others agreed he did the right thing by clearing the air.
Here’s my opinion:
Obi Cubana did the right thing. Since the adopted son made a public statement, it was only fair for Obi to make a public clarification. If he had kept quiet, people might think he agreed, and that could cause family problems in the future.
We need to stop being too emotional. In Africa, most people still see biological children as different from adopted ones. That’s just the reality of our culture.
That’s why I advise women who are getting close to menopause to try and have their own children if possible.
If you’re over 35, have a stable job, and your body can still carry a baby, consider finding a responsible man to father your child. It’s better to raise a child from your own blood than adopt one when you don’t know the full background of the child you adopt unless your egg and supamu is not working. Lets be practical, not just emotional.

According to Ekwutosblog , Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) on Saturday, April 19, 2025, averted what could have been a deadly clash between ethnic groups in Plateau State after armed youths attacked a Fulani settlement in Riyom Local Government Area, PRNigeria reports.
The crisis erupted in Tanjol Village around 1:00 p.m. when suspected Berom youths opened fire on cattle belonging to Fulani herders, killing one cow and injuring two others.
The provocative assault triggered a swift mobilization of Fulani youths from nearby Mahanga in preparation for a reprisal, raising fears of renewed ethnic violence.
According to Zagazola, prompt intervention by security forces — including OPSH’s Sector 6, reinforced by Sector 4 and the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gashish — successfully dispersed the armed groups before the situation escalated.
Two Fulani youths sustained gunshot wounds during the incident, while the attackers fled into surrounding bushes.
Troops and police have since intensified patrols in the area to prevent further unrest.

Officials of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), on Monday, carried out flight checks at the the Gateway International Airport, Ogun State, beginning the process for the commencement of commercial flights.
Speaking after conducting the check, the Manager, Flight Calibration Services, NAMA, Engr. Miri Selzing, said the aim of the check was to ensure that it aligned with the proposed procedures defined for the airport.
He said: “Our purpose for coming here is to check the proposed procedures that have been defined for the airport. This is a significant process and not something that can be concluded in a short time.
“Our visit is the beginning of the validation of the procedure. We have reviewed the procedures that have been drawn up, checked them in the air, and we will analyze them when we get back to our base. From there, we will be able to come up with recommendations and modifications where necessary.
“But physically, the airport looks very good. The runway, about four kilometers long—the longest in the country—is very impressive. The airport has a good terminal building; everything is fine, so it is a great job being done here.”
The Manager commended the state government for establishing such an impressive airport in a very short time, calling for the installation of an Instrument Landing System and other navigational instruments to aid flight movements at the airport.
He said the validation of the procedure is to facilitate the arrival of aircraft at the airport, expressing hope that with the level of work done, it would become a destination for airplanes soon.
“The runway is long and large enough to accommodate any type of aircraft. The airport would handle diversions from Lagos, Ibadan, and Ilorin.
“We commend the Ogun State government for such a laudable project, and we are prepared to assist as more facilities are installed at the airport,” the NAMA official concluded.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the NAMA team has carried out the “23 and the 05” checks and identified the “waypoint,” adding that once the flight check has been completed, it would be developed and made available on the Internet for easy access to the airport.
“This is one of the last elements we need to address to obtain commercial approval,” the Commissioner noted.
Regarding the level of work done at the airport, the Works Commissioner said that while work on any airport around the world is an ongoing process, Gateway International Airport is 97 percent complete, as the control tower, ATC officers, fire fighters, and other necessary facilities have been put in place.
