It all started on the first day of the nationwide protests, August 1, 2024, when Daniels took to Instagram to speak to Nigerians. In the video she posted, she criticized the acts of violence occurring during the protests and called for peace.
“Today is August 1, the first day of the national protests in Nigeria. We all know that the people are suffering and want a better way of life, which is why they are protesting. There is nothing wrong with protesting, but there is everything wrong with violence,” she began.
The actress continued, “Once violence gets involved, it undermines the entire purpose of the protests. I urge everyone to try and make this protest as peaceful as possible.”
Despite her good intentions, her video was met with disapproval from many Nigerians, who told her to remove the video.
“Take the video down, you’re too young to advise your elders. If the country was good, you wouldn’t have married your grandfather,” said an outraged Instagram user in the comment section.
Others criticized Daniels for speaking on the protest while being married to wealthy Nigerian politician Ned Nwoko, emphasizing that she does not understand the struggles of the masses.

Alexei Zimin, 52, died suddenly on a promotional tour to the Serbian capital. Authorities have said his cause of death is currently “unclear”.
Zimin fled Russia to London after his oppositions of Putin. Zimin was once a popular figure on Russian cooking shows. He also owned Zima restaurant in Soho, which he founded after he had left Russia following Putin’s invasion of Crimea.
In a statement released by Zima magazine today, a spokesperson said: “Alexei Zimin, the project’s editor-in-chief and the chef of the Zima restaurant, has passed away. Alexei was not only a colleague, he was our friend, a close person with whom we were lucky to go through a lot – both good, kind and sad.”

It concluded: “Thank you to everyone for the words we received today about Alexei. We are hurting together with you.”
Zimin had also been editor-in-chief of the Russian edition of GQ magazine.
