The family of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has appealed to organisations and individuals planning to celebrate the first anniversary of his death to suspend their plans.

This was contained in a statement signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team and obtained by PUNCH Metro on Monday.

The family expressed their desire to mourn their son in peace, without elaborate events that might affect their emotions.

“It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organisations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas.

“The late singer is yet to be buried. As such, the family would wish the public to join them in prayers at his anniversary rather than organise any elaborate event that will affect their emotions.”

The family also expressed concern that some individuals and organisations might be planning to use Mohbad’s memory for commercial purposes.

This is as they appealed to them to seek approval from the family before proceeding with such a plan.

“It is no longer news that some individuals and organisations have been planning to carry out events to commemorate the late singer’s death.

“We will appeal to such persons and organisations to seek proper approval from the family before going on with such plans. The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes,” the statement added.

The family has urged individuals and organisations to respect their wishes and join them in prayers during this difficult time.

Mohbad, a former record label signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, died on September 12 at the age of 27, with the circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversy on social media.

The Lagos State Police Command however inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the death on September 18, 2023.

His death also led to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry, amongst others.

His corpse was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to unravel the cause of his death.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, tweeted in September 2023 that an autopsy had been concluded and the police were “awaiting results.”

In April, PUNCH Metro exclusively reported that the toxicology test carried out to determine the cause of the music star’s death had been concluded.

The result was sent to the pathologist who carried out the autopsy to analyse and interpret it.

Appearing before the coroner’s court, the pathologist disclosed that the autopsy could not ascertain the cause of Mohbad’s death because the corpse had decomposed.

The management of the National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, United States of America, however, refuted the claim by the Lagos State Government that a toxicology test to ascertain the cause of the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, was conducted at its facility.

Nigerian singer Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better known as Oxlade, has disclosed why he dropped out of Lagos State University (LASU) in his final year.

Speaking in a recent podcast, he said: “I dropped out of the university in my final year because it was a cr@zy time.

There were some gangs after me because I’m a fine boy. Being a fine boy makes you a target. It’s either you join them or they o** you. So I had to leave that environment.

I went to Lagos State University (LASU). Go and read about the school. Now, they’re more focused on academics. I think they’ve realized how fragile life is and how important it is to pursue your dreams, so they’ve cracked down on that kind of behavior. Now everyone is chasing money, but at that time, it was a hot period.

After I left school, I ran away from home because I couldn’t tell my family why I dropped out. They wouldn’t understand; they would just think I was making excuses.

So I couldn’t go back. It felt like I let my family and my grandma down. The crazi€st part was that when my grandma finally saw me, she was so calm about it. All that pressure I put on myself was just in my head.”
