NIGERIA POLICE ARREST MAJOR ARMS DEALER, RECORDS ARREST OF 1246 SUSPECTS, RECOVERY OF 3172 VARIOUS AMMUNITION IN DIFFERENT CRIMINAL CASES IN ONE MONTH. As IGP Reaffirms Dedication to Enhancing Public Safety

In several operations exemplifying the unflinching dedication and commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun Ph.D, NPM., to ensure perpetrator of heinous crimes of various degrees are swept away from disrupting the peace of our dear country, The Force has once again recorded a milestone achievement in the fight against crime.

Since October 1st 2024, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant achievements in the fight against crime. These include the arrest of 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnapping suspects, 242 Murder/homicide suspects, 63 suspects connected with the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, 217 rape suspects, 167 suspected cultists and recovery of 210 various firearms, 3172 ammunition of various calibres. The Police was also able to recover 118 stolen vehicles and rescue ¬64 victims of kidnapping across the country.

Turning to recent crime-fighting achievements, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have made outstanding breakthrough in the fight against several types of violent crimes across the country, one of which is the arrest of a major arms dealer operating in Plateau State. The suspect, identified as Jubril Musa ‘m’ was arrested with 2 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition (long), 1 makarov pistol, 1 fabricated bronny pistol, a single round of 7.8mm live ammunition, 2 rounds of g3 live ammunition, 4 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition (short), and a single round of 9mm live ammunition. The suspect further confessed to supplying these various arms and ammunition to bandits and kidnappers operating in the state.

The Inspector General of Police once again reassures members of the public of the Police Force’s dedication to enhancing the safety and security of the country, implementing various tactical operations, intelligence-led policing, and community engagement strategies. The goal of these initiatives is to establish a substantial decrease in crime rates across the country and the record of significant strides in combating several times of violent crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cybercrime.

Embracing a multifaceted approach to law enforcement, the Nigeria Police Force remains relentless on the mission of ensuring crimes and criminalities are brought to its lowest in accordance with the Rule of Law, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism in carrying out extant duties of protection of lives and properties.

IGP RECEIVES REPORT ON CARE, WELFARE OF YOUNG DETAINEES; ASSURES OF FOLLOW THROUGH ON RECOMMENDATIONS

Following the recent remand and subsequent arraignment of some young individuals on Friday, 1st November, the Inspector-General of Police while in Algiers, Algeria for the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation committee meeting directed investigation into the conditions surrounding the care and welfare of these young persons while in Police detention facilities.

Upon receiving the investigative report today in Glasgow, where the IGP is currently participating in Interpol General Assembly, the IGP vowed to thoroughly examine it and take necessary actions to address any procedural lapses or concerns.
To further ensure professionalism in investigation with emphasis on child-friendly investigation and care, the IGP has summoned all DCs CID and Heads of Investigation Units to a conference and workshop on November 7, 2024, at the Police Resource Center, Jabi.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to upholding legal frameworks, ensuring fairness, and accountability, especially for vulnerable groups.

Court of Appeal Discharged and Acquitted Former CJN, Walter Onnoghen

The Court of Appeal has ordered the unfreezing of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria justice samuel walter onnoghen’s bank accounts in standard chartered bank, Wuse, Abuja.

This was after the court discharged and acquitted Onnoghen from the charges preferred against him in 2019 for not properly declaring his assets leading to his removal from office and the freezing of onnoghen’s bank accounts.

The consent judgment is the outcome of settlement terms, reached by counsel to the Federal Government and the former CJN.

The former Chief Justice of Nigeria had challenged his conviction and removal from office at the Court of Appeal.

IGP ARRIVES 92ND INTERPOL GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN UK WITH DELEGATES.

Harps on Global Networking for Improved Policing

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, and other delegates from Nigeria have joined other Heads of Police Agencies and Police Chiefs from the 196 INTERPOL member countries to attend the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly at Glasgow, United Kingdom from today 4th to Thursday 7th November 2024.

The Nigerian delegation, led by the Honorable Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, and the IGP accompanied by the Vice President INTERPOL Africa, AIG Garba Umar, mni (rtd), CP INTERPOL CP Olaolu Adegbite, the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP CP Johnson Adenola, and others, will also hold bilateral meetings with members of Europol and delegates of other countries represented to discuss security issues as it pertains to global partnerships, governance and data processing in addition to general policing capabilities and organized global crimes

The Inspector-General of Police hopes to leverage on the positive outcome of the meeting to further strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO) in his capacity as chairman, in its quest to curb organized crimes across the country and West African subregion. He reiterates the commitment of the force through its INTERPOL unit to continuously collaborate with other Police institutions to ensure collaborative investigation of international crimes and thereby reduce the potential for such crimes within our borders.
