Nigerian Police Have Power To Break Into Any Property Without Warrant, Says Spokesman

The Nigeria Police Force Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has said police personnel can break into any property without a warrant if they suspect that crime is going on there.
Adejobi said this on Saturday in reaction to a shocking video that has sparked outrage, showing masked armed policemen in improper attire, invading a property without a warrant.
The officers scaled the fence and fired shots to disperse people. This blatant disregard for protocol and human rights has raised concerns about police brutality and accountability.
In response, the Nigeria Police Force has condemned the actions of the officers involved, acknowledging that their behaviour was unacceptable. However, the police also emphasised their authority to enter properties where they reasonably suspect a crime is being committed.
In the video clip shared by @General_Somto and tagged, “What’s Going On Here???”, two masked policemen, wearing improper attire and carrying AK-47 rifles, are seen ordering the occupants of a house, whose location has not been confirmed, to open their gate.
A young man in the video is seen telling the masked men that they cannot open the gate for them unless they show their faces and a search warrant.
The man, supposedly the owner of the house, said, “Imagine police people with facemasks come into my house to force our door, said that we are fraudsters.”

The masked policemen are overheard saying, “You said you no go open the gate? Ok!” The occupants of the house replied, saying: “Yes, we are not going to open the gate to masked armed men. We don’t know you.”
Thereafter, the armed men cocked their guns and one released a shot, forcing the house occupants to run inside the house. One of them is overheard urging others to “get down”.
The policeman who fired the shot is then seen scaling the fence of the house. After gaining access into the compound, he proceeded to open the gate for his colleague.
Reacting to it, Adejobi stated: “Let’s clarify an issue here. The police have the power to break into any house or place where they are reasonably convinced an offence is being committed. That is understandable.
“But I am not too ok with their dressing and appearance. It is improper dressing. Policemen are not allowed to wear masks or tie head gear. These are 2 issues we need to iron out. What is the offence of the people to have warranted breaking in, and why this dressing?
“I wish I knew the location so that we could direct these questions to the men involved. However, I have shared the video with d PPROs to locate the men. We need to investigate the scene captured in the video. Thanks.”

Ekwutos BlogAbuja-based lawyer Stan Alieke has withdrawn from representing singer Speed Darlington in his ongoing legal battle with Burna Boy.
This development comes after Speed Darlington’s release from Kuje prison this January, following a two-month detention.
Speed Darlington was freed after being granted bail, and his lawyer, Stan Alieke, confirmed his release on Instagram, expressing determination to seek justice for the alleged illegal detention and violation of Speed Darlington’s fundamental human rights.
Ekwutosblog reported that the singer’s detention stemmed from his accusation that Burna Boy had an immoral relationship with American rapper and music executive Diddy.
Following Speed Darlington’s release, Burna Boy issued a stern warning on Instagram, cautioning Speed Darlington against misbehaving again.
The reasons behind Alieke’s withdrawal are unclear, but possible factors could include professional disagreements, personal reasons, or the complexity of the case.

Ekwutos BlogThousands of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are currently taking refuge in the town.
Boko Haram terrorists have killed over 20 Nigerian Army personnel, with many still missing following an attack on a military base in Borno State.
SaharaReporters gathered that for several hours on Friday, January 24, 2025, the terrorists attacked the 149 Battalion in Malam-Fatori, the headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
Malam-Fatori is a border town between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
Thousands of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are currently taking refuge in the town.
Sources confirmed to SaharaReporters that the insurgents attacked the base with multiple gun trucks.
The sources added that the terrorists razed many buildings and military operational vehicles during the attack.
Apart from the dead bodies recovered, many other soldiers were seriously injured while a yet-to-be ascertained number of personnel were still missing as of Saturday.
The commanding officer of the battalion, two senior officers including the base medical director were among those killed.
This comes a few days after the terror group launched a brutal attack on the military’s Forward Operating Base in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a yet-to-be confirmed number of soldiers, with many believed to still be missing.
“25 Taskforce Bde was attacked during the weekend with so many casualties, so far we have recovered over seven bodies,” a source had told SaharaReporters.
“The terror group invaded the camp FOB Sabon Gari around 4am on Saturday, using various weapons.”
ISWAP subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.
Also attached to the statement were pictures of members shooting sporadically towards the military facility.
Since the death of JAS leader, Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in locations around Lake Chad.
The sect’s membership has swollen with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters under Shekau.
The Nigerian Army has repeatedly claimed that insurgency had been largely defeated and frequently underplays any losses.
The terror group has caused over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions of people mainly in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
