The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has urged the Federal Government to acquire new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

This recommendation follows the committee’s detailed investigation into the current status of the presidential air fleet.

The committee’s report highlights the necessity for new aircraft, citing concerns over the technical and operational adequacy of the existing fleet.

“Given the fragile structure of the Nigerian federation and the potential dire consequences of any mishap due to the current fleet’s inadequacy, it is in the nation’s best interest to procure two additional aircraft,” the report stated.

The recommendation is a cost-efficient measure in the long run, ensuring that the president and vice president have suitable, comfortable, and safe transportation befitting their offices.

In May, the House of Representatives commissioned a comprehensive investigation into the presidential fleet’s airworthiness, following a motion by Satomi Ahmed, chairman of the House Committee.

This move came after reports of faulty aircraft within the fleet, which had previously forced the president to charter a plane from the Netherlands to Saudi Arabia.

Judge declares Joe Biden’s immigration program for spouse of US citizens Illegal

A federal judge has struck down a Biden administration program that would allow unauthorized immigrants married to American citizens to get legal status and U.S. citizenship, declaring the policy illegal.

U.S. District Court Judge J. Campbell Barker, an appointee of President-elect Donald Trump, found the program violates U.S. immigration law, agreeing with a lawsuit filed by Texas and more than a dozen other Republican-led states.

The ruling is a major defeat for the outgoing Biden administration, which argued the policy, known as Keeping Families Together, promoted family unity among mixed-status households.

When it was announced earlier this year, officials said roughly half-a-million undocumented immigrants were likely eligible for the program.

The Justice Department can appeal Thursday’s ruling, but the incoming administration of Trump, has vowed to dismantle President Biden’s immigration policies. Trump has separately promised to seal and militarize the U.S.-Mexico border and oversee the largest mass deportation in American history.

The Keeping Families Together initiative was announced by Mr. Biden in June, just weeks after he took a different executive action to sharply limit asylum along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The program would give work permits and deportation protections to undocumented immigrants who are married to American citizens and have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years without committing serious crimes.

Most importantly, the policy would also allow these immigrants to apply for permanent residency, also known as a green card. After three years, green card holders married to U.S. citizens can apply for citizenship.

Backlash In Ghana As President Akufo-Addo Unveils Statue Of Himself Amid Mixed Reactions

Ghana’s outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo is under public scrutiny after unveiling a statue of himself in the Western Region, sparking a wave of criticism and debate on social media.

The statue, intended to honor the president’s contributions to national development, stands prominently outside the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.

Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Region’s minister, stated the monument celebrates the infrastructure and development projects championed by Akufo-Addo during his time in office.

However, opposition voices, including MP Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, have condemned the statue as “self-glorification,” with many citizens echoing that sentiment online.

The president, who will step down in January after two terms, revealed the statue during his “thank-you tour” and highlighted achievements such as the free secondary education policy, which he called his “most significant legacy.”

Photos of the statue have gone viral, with some Ghanaians demanding its removal post-Akufo-Addo’s tenure, arguing it is an unnecessary display when numerous projects remain unfinished.

Despite the criticism, some Ghanaians support the statue as a fitting tribute to the president’s impact.
The president’s tour coincides with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign efforts for the upcoming election, where Akufo-Addo has endorsed Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia as his successor.

Bawumia will face former President John Dramani Mahama, who is running under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with key issues like high living costs driving voter concerns in the lead-up to the election.

Opposition gathering Against My administration In Abuja —Gov. Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has said that members of the opposition are gathering in Abuja and other places with the intention of deceiving Abia people with fake news about his administration.

According to him, the members of the opposition have perfected a strategy to churn out fake and sometimes, real documents for propaganda purposes.

Otti stated this at Government House, Umuahia, on Monday while swearing in the Chairman and Deputy Chairmen of the 17 local government areas, together with elected councilors.

Otti, who did not mention the names of the opposition members, however, said that his administration was not afraid of such gatherings, as according to him, previous meetings held by such un-named persons failed and will fail again.

“Let me leave a word for the so-called opposition who are gathering in Abuja and elsewhere with the sole intention to deceive people and distract this government.

“They have perfected a strategy to churn out fake and sometimes real documents for false narratives and propaganda.

“Just like the Bible assures, because these gatherings are not of God, they will scatter. Do not take Abia people for granted.

“You have done this before and failed. What makes you think you will succeed this time given all the transformation that has happened in this state in less than 18 months? A word is enough for the wise,” Otti warned
