Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has shed light on the viral videos that misleadingly portrayed him as mentally unwell.

In an interview with media personality Lucky Udu, Anuku clarified that he was merely rehearsing for a role as a madman when the footage was taken.

Anuku recounted, “That day, I was trying to get into character for a role as a madman, someone who wasn’t in his right frame of mind. I was practicing in the neighborhood to achieve the authenticity the director wanted. I was unaware I was being recorded, fully immersed in my script and performance.”

Addressing the subsequent rumors about his mental health and drug use, Anuku firmly denied these claims, stating, “People said I was sick and on drugs. That’s not true. I’ve never been on drugs. Perhaps people saw me looking stressed, which can happen with depression, but I am very sane and healthy. I stay fit through martial arts and sports.”

The actor revealed that the fallout from the viral videos had a significant impact on his career. “I lost a lot of money and job opportunities. I went through a tough time and felt heartbroken because people didn’t care to find out the truth,” Anuku shared.

Despite the challenges, Anuku remains resilient, emphasizing his commitment to his craft and well-being.
