The African Patriots Forum (APF) has commended lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaehwule, for their commitment to democracy and the rule of law following their recent Supreme Court victory.

In a statement signed by its Global President, Dr. Lanre Solomon, the APF described the ruling as a “significant milestone” in the lawmakers’ effort to assert their authority and promote good governance in Rivers State.

“The lawmakers, led by Amaehwule, have demonstrated unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, justice, truth, and the people’s interests,” the statement read.

The forum commended the lawmakers for seeking legal redress rather than resorting to violence in their ongoing dispute with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The APF accused Governor Fubara of disregarding the rule of law and urged him to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“The Governor must quit playing games and respect the court orders. The Supreme Court’s verdicts are clear and unequivocal, and it is imperative that he desists from any further actions that may be deemed contemptuous,” the statement declared.

The forum warned that any continued defiance of the ruling could escalate tensions and lead to “chaos and anarchy” in the state.

The APF urged all stakeholders in Rivers State to support the legislators, describing their actions as a crucial stand for democratic values.

“The lawmakers’ actions are a powerful reminder that democracy is not just about winning elections, but also about upholding the principles of justice, equality, and fairness,” the statement concluded.

The forum’s remarks come after the Supreme Court upheld the legitimacy of the Rivers State House of Assembly under Speaker Amaehwule, further deepening the political standoff between the Assembly and Governor Fubara.
