NYSC Biometric Clearance and CDS Suspension

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended biometric clearance and weekly Community Development Services (CDS) for Corps members nationwide due to the planned protests scheduled to take place between August 1-10, 2024

Here are some key points to note:

Suspension Period:  The suspension will be in effect from August 1 to August 10, 2024, to ensure the safety of Corps members during the planned protests.

Biometric Clearance: Biometric clearance has been suspended, and Corps members are advised to follow the instructions of their Local Government Inspectors (LGIs) for further guidance.

Community Development Services (CDS): Weekly CDS activities have also been suspended, and Corps members are encouraged to stay safe and avoid large gatherings.

Monthly Clearance: Corps members are still required to complete their monthly clearance, which can be done at the Local Government Secretariat

Final Clearance: The final clearance process for Corps members completing their service remains unchanged, and they should follow the instructions of their LGIs and CDS Officers to ensure a smooth completion of their service.

Again, Nigeria has been plunged into darkness as the national grid recorded another collapse on Tuesday.

The incident happened around 2:09 pm on Tuesday according to the official X handle of the National Nigeria Grid.

Ekwutosblog recalls that the nation’s power grid witnessed a series of collapses last month.

 

In 2024 alone, the National grid had collapsed at least eight times.

Recently, nine northern states were plunged into darkness as the National grid collapsed again.

IGP RECEIVES REPORT ON CARE, WELFARE OF YOUNG DETAINEES; ASSURES OF FOLLOW THROUGH ON RECOMMENDATIONS

Following the recent remand and subsequent arraignment of some young individuals on Friday, 1st November, the Inspector-General of Police while in Algiers, Algeria for the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation committee meeting directed investigation into the conditions surrounding the care and welfare of these young persons while in Police detention facilities.

Upon receiving the investigative report today in Glasgow, where the IGP is currently participating in Interpol General Assembly, the IGP vowed to thoroughly examine it and take necessary actions to address any procedural lapses or concerns.
To further ensure professionalism in investigation with emphasis on child-friendly investigation and care, the IGP has summoned all DCs CID and Heads of Investigation Units to a conference and workshop on November 7, 2024, at the Police Resource Center, Jabi.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to upholding legal frameworks, ensuring fairness, and accountability, especially for vulnerable groups.

The Court of Appeal has ordered the unfreezing of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria justice samuel walter onnoghen’s bank accounts in standard chartered bank, Wuse, Abuja.

This was after the court discharged and acquitted Onnoghen from the charges preferred against him in 2019 for not properly declaring his assets leading to his removal from office and the freezing of onnoghen’s bank accounts.

The consent judgment is the outcome of settlement terms, reached by counsel to the Federal Government and the former CJN.

The former Chief Justice of Nigeria had challenged his conviction and removal from office at the Court of Appeal.
