Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States and Head of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, Valerii Chalyi, an expert on American politics, spoke about the November 5 deadline in the United States.

According to Valerii Chalyi, Ukraine will have to adapt in any case:

“We have already seen Donald Trump’s presidency, and everyone can draw their own conclusions from it. For me, the situation is quite transparent – I have seen it from the inside, and I will say this: Ukraine will have to work with the person elected by the American people, whoever he/she may be, and therefore we must prepare different tools for this.”

He talks about Trump’s potential return to the White House and doesn’t see it as a danger for Ukraine:

“It’s a big mistake to think that the people who are currently around Trump will occupy positions in the White House. This isn’t the case. There will be a transition team that will form these positions. So there are balances, certain circumstances, and there is Congress, after all.”

And if Kamala Harris is elected, according to the former ambassador, the situation will not be so positive:

“I wouldn’t say that it will be easier for us with a Democratic candidate either. It was very difficult to work with the people who were on his team in the past. I worked with them – they were part of Obama’s team. At that time, they had no desire to help Ukraine with lethal weapons. It was an insurmountable wall.”

The UK Government has reportedly declined the petition submitted by activist, Sunday Igboho calling for support over ‘Yoruba Nation’ Agitation.

This was revealed by Eche Abu-Obe, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Abu-Obe, the UK government does not concern itself with petitions concerning the sovereign affairs of another country hence the petition was not endorsed.

“Following media reports on the petition submitted at No. 10 Downing Street by Mr Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, the British High Commissioner in Abuja was invited to shed light on the issue.

“During the meeting, the High Commissioner noted with concern that the matter was overblown, indicating that the media reports were highly misleading.

“Furthermore, the High Commissioner informed that he was aware of the letter being delivered but added that it was merely an established practice of allowing the delivery of letters and petitions to No 10.

“It was not endorsed by any agency of the UK government nor the UK Parliamentary Petitions Committee.

“The UK government typically does not concern itself with petitions concerning the sovereign affairs of another country,” Abu-Obe said.

He quoted the high commissioner to have informed that such petitions had been rejected by the UK Parliamentary Petitions Committee and the UK Government in the past.

He further agreed to continue liaising with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as needed, while reiterating the importance of the bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

  • Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua moved to court to stop the Senate from debating the impeachment motion passed by the National Assembly
  • However, High Court judge Chacha Mwita declined to issue interim orders, stopping the Senate from considering the ouster motion against the DP
  • The development is a major blow to Gachagua, given the Senate is expected to debate and vote on his impeachment on Wednesday and Thursday

Amos Khaemba, a journalist at TUKO.co.ke, brings over three years of experience covering politics and current affairs in Kenya.

Nairobi – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s bid to stop the impeachment proceedings has suffered a major blow.

Why Rigathi Gachagua wanted Senate proceedings stopped

Gachagua moved to the High Court seeking interim orders halting the impeachment proceedings at the Senate

In his petition, Gachagua argued that the National Assembly had violated his constitutional rights and that only the court could save him from impeachment.

Gachagua stated that the resolution passed by the National Assembly is invalid on several grounds, and the impeachment motion is replete with general and unsupported allegations.

On Tuesday, October 15, Milimani Law Court presiding judge, Chacha Mwita, declined to grant the orders requested by Gachagua’s legal team.

Justice Mwita said the courts have powers to supervise decisions, including impeachment, made by quasi-judicial bodies such as the National Assembly and the Senate.

In his ruling, Justice Mwita declined to stop impeachment proceedings, stating that the Senate must be allowed to carry out its function and the deputy president could contest the final decision of the senators.
