UNIBEN: Four Male Final Year Students Involved in a Car Accident During Sign Out Celebration at the University of Benin.

The University of Benin environment was filled with enthusiasm and happiness earlier today as graduating students concluded the 2023/2024 academic session with an optimistic “Sign Out” celebration.

However, the celebratory moment took a twist when four male students were involved in a car accident as a result of reckless driving. Witnesses disclosed that the students, filled with excitement, were driving at a high speed along the route from the Engineering Faculty to the staff quarters.

Unfortunately, their vehicle crashed into a building under construction, resulting in damage to both the car and the building.

Security personnel promptly arrived at the scene and rescued the victims. All four students sustained serious injuries and bruises.

An ambulance conveyed them to the university’s medical center for treatment. However, two of the victims quietly left the scene, refusing medical attention and care.

OAU professor Olanipekun dies after falling ill during departmental meeting

The Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a senior professor, Jimoh Olanipekun, who fell ill during a departmental meeting on Wednesday.

 

A statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said Olanipekun began breathing abnormally during the meeting and was rushed to the University Health and Medical Centre.

“After an initial examination, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was pronounced dead,” he said.

OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a condolence visit to the professor’s family, expressing shock and describing him as a brilliant scholar.

He urged the family to take solace in his impactful life and prayed for strength to bear the loss.

The late professor was a respected academic in the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in scholarship.
