URU IMPROVEMENT UNION (CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION) HELD HER GENERAL MEETING

Uru Nwa Asukwu Anunu kicked started her 3 Days annual general meeting of the union today 29th July to end on the 31st of July.

Uru is a community in Ogwa in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State.

 


The first day of the meeting witnessed a large turnout of men from the community, was chaired by the President General of the union Barrister Kenneth Ikechukwu Emekowa.


After an opening prayer for the meeting, a minute silence was observed for the departed soul of the members of the union and prayers offered for continue resting of their souls.

 

Then comes the President General’s address;

Greetings my good people of Uru Nwa Asukwu Anunu,i thank God Almighty for keeping us alive today and affording us the opportunity to be part of this year’s annual general meeting. To him alone be the glory for journey mercies granted to everyone of us who came from far and near.

He also thanked God for ensuring that Uru Community experienced peace, orderliness and stability despite the odds,pains and tribulations, miscreants and their cohorts in the community within the year.


Barr Kenneth whose administration as the President General has steered the ship of Uru governance for good three years now, have recorded numerous achievements with physical testimonies on ground.

 

Barr Emekowa has lived up to expectations as he promised of taking the community to the next level when he came in as the new President General of the union.

Truly, Uru Community have steeped to a next level under his watch as the President General of the union, counting from building of the union town Hall, procurement of brand new 250kva transformer and it’s installation that cost over N20 million naira.


The project was achieved through massive support from the diaspora base of Uru indigenes.

Rehabilitation of major roads in the community, restoration of security for the wellbeing of the Uru people and properties.

Renovation of Uru community primary school and most importantly cooperation and unity, peace and progress in the community.

 

It is obviously that bond existing now in the community is unprecedented, from kindred down to the community at large with unity of purpose, love and revived spirit of patriotism that has not been before among the people of Uru both diasporans and Nigeria base indigenes.

 

It’s cheering to note that under this current administration of Barr Kenneth together with his proactive members of the union executives, Uru diasporans round the world have embraced each other and come together in unity of purpose to move Uru forward and driving it’s development.

This unprecedented brand of patriotism has been enthroned in Uru, as been exhibited by Uru diasporans like never before.

The current regime of Barr Kenneth Emekowa has truly enjoyed the great support of their sons and daughters in overseas and Nigeria base which have translated into a new face of Uru today.

The president general gave thanks and praise to God Almighty, and prayed that this tempo be sustained and maintained by Uru diasporans till the community is taking to it’s dream land.

Furthermore; Barr Kenneth stated that his administration cannot thank Uru diasporans and Nigeria base enough for the kind of support, love and high spirit they have shown so far towards the progress and development of their community.

He said; they have really demonstrated consciousness that Uru is their own, and place of birth.

And prayed that God will continue to bless and preserve them. They shall never lack in Jesus name Amen.

He prayed that Uru Diasporans forum which they have now formed, shall become a shining example to other communities in Jesus name Amen.

In the meeting, Barr Kenneth admonishes branches of Uru Improvement Union to rise to the occasion through commitment and dedication in seeing that their branches become more relevant to the affairs of the union. He called on the branches to do better in assisting the administration in collection of levies, annual dues and present fees, that way the desired synergy needed to drive development of Uru would be enthroned.

He equally informed the people present at the meeting about the upcoming Uru Day Celebration on the 30th December, he said we intend to use this year occasion to honour and recognise past leaders who have served Uru in various capacities,both living and the dead.

He continued; we’ll also use the occasion of this year’s Uru Day Celebration to have a second edition of “Igboto Mma” which was initiated by the immediate past administration.

2024 Uru Day Celebration organising committee will be constituted in this annual general meeting and shall be mandated to identify Uru Men who are qualified to be honoured with Igboto Mma ceremony during this year’s Uru Day Celebration.

President General finally called on the good people of Uru community on the need to complete Uru civic centre hall before his tenure runs out next year 2025. To this end, he stated that we will increase our efforts and vigour to take this hall to completion stage before their current administration tenure runs out.

On this note he said , all hands must be on desk to enable the union leadership to achieve this dream and make it reality.

In the same line, the public relation officer of the Uru Improvement Union Comr Chidiebere Okoroegbe in addressing the press men on ground, thanked the entire members of Uru community and called for more commitment from the people, to enable the current administration in Uru to achieve all his set goals for the good of Uru community and development.

Also, Ezinna Edwin Nnodim President Uru Improvement Union, United States Of America and Ugoeze Chinyere Edit Obichukwu, wife of Eze Emeka Obichukwu the traditional ruler greater Owerri, Houston Texas USA through a telephone call separately eulogized the leadership of Uru Improvement Union ably led by Hon Barrister Kenneth Ikechukwu Emekowa for their commitment and dedication towards developing of Uru community.

They assured of continuous support to the development of their community and ready to do more benevolence to the people and the community at large for the good of Uru community.

In the same vein, Chief Godstime Egesimba (Omeiheukwu N’ Ogwa) and Chief Charles Nwaiwu (Ashi Akpo Onu) together with some other notable leaders and personalities in the community praised the current administration of the union and charged them to never relent in their bid to make Uru community envy of other communities around.

They prayed God to clothe them with strength and more wisdom to continue driving the community to the promise land and make Uru community a lookalike of United Kingdom.

IGP RECEIVES REPORT ON CARE, WELFARE OF YOUNG DETAINEES; ASSURES OF FOLLOW THROUGH ON RECOMMENDATIONS

Following the recent remand and subsequent arraignment of some young individuals on Friday, 1st November, the Inspector-General of Police while in Algiers, Algeria for the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation committee meeting directed investigation into the conditions surrounding the care and welfare of these young persons while in Police detention facilities.

Upon receiving the investigative report today in Glasgow, where the IGP is currently participating in Interpol General Assembly, the IGP vowed to thoroughly examine it and take necessary actions to address any procedural lapses or concerns.
To further ensure professionalism in investigation with emphasis on child-friendly investigation and care, the IGP has summoned all DCs CID and Heads of Investigation Units to a conference and workshop on November 7, 2024, at the Police Resource Center, Jabi.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to upholding legal frameworks, ensuring fairness, and accountability, especially for vulnerable groups.

Court of Appeal Discharged and Acquitted Former CJN, Walter Onnoghen

The Court of Appeal has ordered the unfreezing of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria justice samuel walter onnoghen’s bank accounts in standard chartered bank, Wuse, Abuja.

This was after the court discharged and acquitted Onnoghen from the charges preferred against him in 2019 for not properly declaring his assets leading to his removal from office and the freezing of onnoghen’s bank accounts.

The consent judgment is the outcome of settlement terms, reached by counsel to the Federal Government and the former CJN.

The former Chief Justice of Nigeria had challenged his conviction and removal from office at the Court of Appeal.

IGP ARRIVES 92ND INTERPOL GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN UK WITH DELEGATES.

Harps on Global Networking for Improved Policing

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, and other delegates from Nigeria have joined other Heads of Police Agencies and Police Chiefs from the 196 INTERPOL member countries to attend the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly at Glasgow, United Kingdom from today 4th to Thursday 7th November 2024.

The Nigerian delegation, led by the Honorable Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, and the IGP accompanied by the Vice President INTERPOL Africa, AIG Garba Umar, mni (rtd), CP INTERPOL CP Olaolu Adegbite, the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP CP Johnson Adenola, and others, will also hold bilateral meetings with members of Europol and delegates of other countries represented to discuss security issues as it pertains to global partnerships, governance and data processing in addition to general policing capabilities and organized global crimes

The Inspector-General of Police hopes to leverage on the positive outcome of the meeting to further strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO) in his capacity as chairman, in its quest to curb organized crimes across the country and West African subregion. He reiterates the commitment of the force through its INTERPOL unit to continuously collaborate with other Police institutions to ensure collaborative investigation of international crimes and thereby reduce the potential for such crimes within our borders.
