The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has commiserated with families of victims who lost their lives at IMSU junction in Owerri on Saturday night as a result of vehicular accident.

About six persons were confirmed dead according to a press statement signed by Imo State Police Command Spokesperson, Henry Okoye on Sunday.

Okoye said: “Following information received from a concerned citizen on 18/05/2024, at about 1745hrs, that a fatal motor accident involving a Mack Truck and four minibusses occurred at IMSU Junction, along Okigwe road, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, swiftly mobilised operatives of Orji Divisional Headquarters and the State Traffic department to the scene.

“On arrival at the scene, the Police operatives in synergy with public-spirited individuals assisted in evacuating the victims to Federal Medical Center (FMC), Owerri for medical attention, where the medical practitioner on duty confirmed six (6) dead on arrival, while frantic efforts commenced to save the lives of the injured victims.”

However, the governor through the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba sympathised with the bereaved families and directed the Commissioner for Health to ensure that those injured are taken care off.

He said the governor has directed for a proper investigation into the root cause of the road mishap and will make sure parties found culpable will face the wrath of the law.

He, however, assured that his government will take necessary measures to forestall a reoccurance of such tragedy at the junction.

He said : “While the governor yesterday directed immediate response team including security agencies, that assisted in taking the injured victims to hospitals and the fatal ones to the mortuary, he has further directed the State Commissioner for Health to follow up and ensure that adequate medical attention is given to those on admission.

“He has equally directed a holistic investigation into the accident with a view to identifying the culprits who should be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“His Excellency regrets the avoidable loss of lives, including those of innocent students whose future has been abruptly arrested as a result of this tragic event.

“While condoling with the bereaved families , His Excellency has assured that necessary measures would be taken to ensure that such a deadly tragedy does not recur at that particular junction.”

Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant leader, has been vocal about his displeasure with Fubara, denying his Ijaw heritage and even wishing death upon him. Dokubo’s outburst seems to be linked to Fubara’s alleged reneging on an agreement with Nyesom Wike.

He tauntingly said “Agreement is agreement” and even asked his supporters if they knew the agreement that was signed, to which they responded with a unanimous “no”.

Dokubo also posed a rhetorical question to his supporters, asking if they would be pleased if he traveled to Mecca and someone killed his supporters. Predictably, they responded with a resounding “no”.

This comment highlights Dokubo’s concern for his supporters’ safety and well-being, while also underscoring his own willingness to take bold action.

Dokubo’s comments come amidst his broader criticisms of Wike, who he accuses of working with President Tinubu to destabilize Rivers State. Notably, Dokubo had previously spent over $2 million supporting President Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

It’s clear that Dokubo is deeply invested in the politics of the region and is not afraid to speak his mind, even if it means making provocative statements.
