In a move aimed at advancing Nigeria’s energy sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the exploration and development of the Anambra Basin. This pledge was made during a high-level meeting with stakeholders in Enugu State Yesterday

The Anambra Basin, identified as one of Nigeria’s significant hydrocarbon-rich regions, has remained largely untapped for decades. President Tinubu emphasized that its development aligns with his administration’s focus on boosting local energy production, creating jobs, and diversifying the nation’s economy.

“The potential of the Anambra Basin is immense, and my government is fully committed to harnessing this resource responsibly and sustainably for the benefit of our people,” the President stated. He assured stakeholders of adequate policy support, funding, and collaboration with international partners to fast-track ongoing efforts.

The administration has also directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to prioritize exploration activities in the region. A task force comprising key industry players and government agencies is set to be inaugurated to oversee the implementation of this ambitious plan.

Community leaders and representatives from the host communities in the Anambra Basin expressed optimism about the renewed commitment. They urged the government to address environmental concerns, ensure fair distribution of benefits, and prioritize local content in the project’s execution.

President Tinubu’s promise marks a significant step toward unlocking the potential of the Anambra Basin, with the hope that it will drive economic growth, strengthen energy security, and contribute to the nation’s overall development.
