20 Abducted Medical Students Freed In Benue State Without Ransom Payment

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of 20 medical students and others kidnapped in Benue State.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the victims were rescued on Friday by the Office of the National Security Adviser without paying any ransom.

The medical students and their accompanying doctors were abducted on August 15 while en route to a medical convention.

Their captors had demanded a ₦50 million ransom, but the police intervened, deploying substantial human and technical resources to secure their release.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the security agencies, locals, and ONSA for their commitment and resilience in rescuing the victims.

He reiterated the force’s determination to fight against crimes and criminality, particularly kidnapping.

The police have arrested a few suspects and neutralized others, with investigations ongoing.

The Nigeria Police Force has appealed to the public to provide useful information and actionable intelligence to aid the investigation.
