2025: IGP FELICITATES NIGERIANS, RESIDENTS ON NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS.

Commits To More People-Centric Policing.

As we celebrate the New Year, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., extend heartfelt felicitations to all Nigerians and residents, wishing them a joyous and prosperous New Year. In this season of joy, reflection, and hope, the IGP acknowledges the resilience and determination of the Nigerian people amid challenges faced in the past year.

Emphasizing the importance of community engagement and a people-centric approach to policing, the IGP has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to enhancing public safety and security through a more community-oriented and people-focused policing strategy.

The IGP calls on all Nigerians to actively participate in building a secure and peaceful nation by partnering with the Police, remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities while maintaining open channels of communication with the Police and other law enforcement agencies.

Terrorists kill Miyetti Allah leader

The Acting Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Katsina State, Alhaji Amadu Surajo, has been killed by gunmen.

The attack happened late Saturday night in Mai Rana village, Kusada Local Government Area.

Three other people lost their lives, and several were injured during the attack.

The gunmen also kidnapped Surajo’s two wives and a daughter, who is a university student.

One of the wives was later released.

Before becoming Acting Chairman, Surajo was the State Secretary of MACBAN.

He took over after the former chairman, Munnir Lamido, went missing last year under unclear circumstances.

Security forces have been sent to the area to investigate and maintain peace.

The victims will be buried according to Islamic traditions, while the injured are receiving treatment.

The Catholic priest, Joseph Enyiaka, allegedly shot the boy dead after the latter set off firecrackers within a church premises.

The Bishop of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Lucius Ugorji, has said the church leadership “highly regrets” the shooting to death of a boy by a Catholic priest in Imo State, Nigeria’s South-east.

The killing

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that the Catholic priest, Joseph Enyiaka, allegedly shot the boy dead after the latter set off firecrackers within a church premises.

The incident happened during a Holy Mass celebration, marking the crossover to the New Year 2025 at St. Columba Parish Amaimo, a community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.

The police said the Catholic priest has been arrested over the incident.

Call for calm

In a statement on Thursday, Mr Ugorji said apart from the deceased, one person was wounded during the shooting.

“The Archdiocese of Owerri condoles with the bereaved family, and prays for the happy repose of the dead, and the speedy recovery of the injured,” he said.

The bishop called for calm considering that police were already investigating the incident.
