Bandits Demand N20m Levy from Benue Community

Bandits have issued a threatening demand to the Torough community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, ordering them to pay a N20 million levy or face invasion

Threat of Invasion: The bandits have threatened to attack the community if the money is not paid within the next few days.

Household Contributions: Residents have been instructed to contribute N50,000 per household to raise the demanded amount.

Fear of Reporting: Community members are afraid to report the matter to the authorities for fear of provoking the militias.

Local Government Awareness: The local government is aware of the situation, and the chairman has reported the matter to the police and state security council.

Identification of Militia Leader: The chairman identified a notorious militia leader, Full Fire, as the person behind the demands.

Security Response: The state Police Public Relations Officer claimed that such a report had not reached the command, while the Security Adviser to the Governor stated that bandits in the state are on the run and would not have the luxury of collecting taxes from villagers.
