The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned a Federal High Court ruling that mandated the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to permit the participation of 381 ad-hoc delegates in its February 22 primary election in Edo State.
This primary election resulted in Asue Ighodalo being selected as the party’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
A three-member panel of the appellate court set aside the July 4, 2024, judgement delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, stating that the trial court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case brought by the aggrieved delegates, who did not possess the necessary legal rights to initiate the suit.
