_Governors Convene in Abuja for Critical Discussions_

The 36 state governors, under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), are currently meeting in Abuja to address two critical issues ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵:

– *Minimum Wage*: The governors are discussing the proposed new national minimum wage, which has been a topic of debate. The federal government has proposed N62,000, but labour unions are demanding N250,000. The governors are expected to take a collective stance on the matter.

– *Local Government Autonomy*: The governors are also discussing local government autonomy, a matter that has been contested in court. The federal government has sued the governors at the Supreme Court, seeking full autonomy for local governments.

Other items on the agenda include ¹:

– *NC-CARES Disbursement*: The governors will discuss the disbursement of funds from the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NC-CARES) program.

– *ECA, PPT, and Royalties Accounts*: The governors will review the reconciliation and debt net-off for the Excess Crude Account (ECA), Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT), and Royalties Accounts.

The meeting is crucial in addressing the minimum wage and local government autonomy issues, which have far-reaching implications for the country.
