In a significant boost to its operational capabilities, the Nigerian Army has received its first batch of brand-new aircraft, marking a major milestone in the development of its aviation wing. The aircraft, BELL UH-1H (HUEY) helicopters, were formally received by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, at a ceremony held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The new helicopters are equipped with advanced sensors and enablers, enabling the Army to conduct a range of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, rescue, logistics, transportation, and medical evacuation.
The Chief of Army Staff expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fulfilling his promise to fund the acquisition of the aircraft and praised the collective efforts of personnel, successive administrations, and international partners for their support in realizing the dream of a capable Army Aviation wing.
This development marks a significant enhancement of the Army’s reconnaissance, surveillance, and air mobility capabilities, and demonstrates its commitment to serving the nation better and providing an enabling environment for economic prosperity.
