Renowned Canadian singer Celine Dion returned triumphantly to the stage, performing at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday.
Despite battling Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, Dion delivered a powerful rendition of Edith Piaf’s classic “Hymne à l’amour” from the iconic Eiffel Tower, bringing the ceremony to a close.
This marked her first live performance in four years and her second appearance at the Olympic Games.
Dion’s emotional performance was a highlight of the rain-soaked but spectacular opening ceremony, featuring performances by Lady Gaga and a starring role by French football legend Zinedine Zidane.
Despite the challenges posed by the rain, the ceremony was a spectacular success, with hundreds of thousands of spectators lining the banks and bridges of the Seine to watch the athletes’ flotilla and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron.
