Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, faced a tough reality check as they suffered their first defeat at the Paris 2024 Olympics, losing 75-54 to a dominant French side in their second Group C game.

Despite Ezinne Kalu’s impressive 18-point performance, the team struggled to overcome France’s suffocating defense and size advantage.

After a convincing win over Australia in their opening match, D’Tigress hoped to build momentum but were undone by France’s aggressive and physical play.

Gabby Williams led the charge for Les Bleus with 14 points, seven assists, and six steals, while Marine Johannes added 15 points.

Nigeria’s scoring was limited, with only Kalu and Murjanatu Liman Musa (14 points) making significant contributions.

The team’s total points were a far cry from their 75-point outing against Australia, with 15 points coming from the free-throw line.

D’Tigress now joins Australia with a 1-1 record, while Canada remains winless at 0-2.

The Nigerian team will face Canada on Saturday, seeking a historic knockout berth, while France aims to complete a perfect group stage run against Australia.
