Emefiele’s lawyers accuses Justice Oshodi of bias, demand recuse from ex-CBN Gov trial

Two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SAN, Olalekan Ojo and Kazeem Gbadamosi have accused Justice Abdulrahman Oshodi of bias against the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele and demanded that he recuse himself from further proceedings.

Meanwhile, Justice Oshodi has fixed ruling for February 26 in the application asking him to recuse himself in the trial of Emefiele.

At the resumed trial of Emefiele on Monday, the lead counsel to the former Governor, Mr Olalekan Ojo SAN, in an application asked the Judge to recuse himself from further hearing of the matter on the ground of bias.

During the proceedings and in the course of examination- in- chief by a witness, Adetola John, Justice Oshodi had stated clearly in the open court that the allegation of receiving bribe money has been proven against the erstwhile Governor of the CBN.

This was done while the prosecution counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo SAN, was leading the witness, Adetola John in evidence in chief .

The objection of the defence team was based on the fact that such statements from the trial judge when the matter has not been concluded, especially when cross examination had not commenced on the witness clearly showed that the judge has made up his mind to convict the former Governor of the CBN.

According to Olalekan Ojo, SAN, “this court has granted an accelerated hearing on this matter but what we are witnessing is an accelerated sentencing”.

Mr Kazeem Gbadamosi, SAN, also vehemently spoke against the continued hearing of the matter by Justice Oshodi on the same ground that, having stated that allegation of collection of bribe money has been proven against the defendant shows that the defendant is already convicted even before the full hearing of the matter.

He demanded that the Judge step down from further trial of the charges.

Meanwhile, Justice Oshodi has fixed ruling for February 26 in the application asking him to recuse himself in the trial of Emefiele.

Lady cries out after her brother was knocked down by keke on his way to early morning test at UniAbuja, faces possible leg amputation

A visibly distressed lady has cried out over a tragic accident involving her younger brother, a student of the University of Abuja.

According to her account, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when students were struggling to get to school for a test allegedly scheduled around 5 a.m.

She explained that while her brother and a coursemate were trying to cross the road in front of the University of Abuja, a commercial tricycle (keke), reportedly driving against traffic, knocked them down.

As of the time she shared the video, her brother was said to be unconscious and already being prepared for surgery. Doctors, she stated, described his condition as critical, adding that there was a possibility his leg might have to be amputated.

The lady further claimed that although the tricycle rider was arrested, there were moves to release him, and that the school authorities had not reached out or offered any form of support since the incident.

She also revealed that the hospital initially rejected her brother due to the seriousness of his condition before eventually admitting him, while medical bills continued to pile up beyond what she could afford.
