Emulate Obasanjo, Jonathan: Kwankwaso Advises Tinubu on Tax Reform Bill
Kwankwaso urges Tinubu to rethink the tax reform bill, recommending approaches inspired by Obasanjo and Jonathan’s leadership.
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has urged President Bola Tinubu to follow the example set by former Presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan by withdrawing the contentious Tax Reform Bill currently before the National Assembly for the nation’s benefit.
He emphasized the need for the President to reassess his firm position on the Tax Reform Bills, advocating for the welfare of Nigerians to be prioritized in light of the country’s economic difficulties.
In a statement shared on his X account, Kwankwaso highlighted that now is not an appropriate time to revise VAT or introduce new taxes, given the financial strain many citizens are experiencing.
He called for the government to focus on providing relief and support rather than imposing further financial burdens.
Kwankwaso also encouraged President Tinubu to listen to the National Economic Council and other respected advisors, stressing that decisions should be made in the interest of the public rather than personal agendas.
He pointed out that withdrawing such bills has historical precedent, as both Obasanjo and Jonathan made similar choices for the nation’s benefit, and he believes this approach should be revisited.
In closing, he respectfully urged President Tinubu to reconsider his position on these bills, ensuring that the majority of Nigerians are heard and their concerns addressed.
