Nigerians protesting against bad governance, economic hardship and hunger have taken their protests to the mansion of Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

A video circulating on social media showed the demonstrators singing the national anthem while waiting in front of the FCT minister’s residence on Ada George Street, Port-Harcourt.

The police have now deployed more officers to tighten security at Wike’s house.

Meanwhile the Rivers State Police Command has stated that the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceProtest is assuming a frightening dimension, noting that unlawful acts such as extortion, destruction of vehicles, and harassment of business owners will no longer be tolerated.

The police said the lack of clear leadership among the protesters is gradually leading to a breakdown of law and order and vowed to arrest and prosecute anyone infringing
on the rights of others.

The spokesperson for the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement titled ‘Protest Taking Another Shape’ issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday morning and sent to newsmen.

Iringe-Koko said the command has been closely monitoring the protest in the state and has been providing security but expressed worry over the call by a group of traders and motorists to stay at home or join the protest.
