A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at the bustling Buni Yadi market in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State on Friday, leaving one girl injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred at approximately 12:30 PM, causing panic and chaos in the area.

Captain Muhammad Shehu, spokesman for the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the incident and reported that a second IED was discovered and safely detonated by the Army.

The sole victim, a girl, is currently receiving medical treatment at a local health facility in Buni Yadi. Authorities have stressed that the incident was a planted IED and not a suicide bombing.

Buni Yadi, located 54 kilometers from the state capital Damaturu, has been a target of Boko Haram insurgents in the past.

The area has witnessed significant security operations aimed at curbing the activities of the insurgent group.

The incident is currently under investigation, and further details will be provided as more information becomes available.
