Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, was tragically killed on Saturday afternoon by unidentified assailants along Osoba Way, Abeokuta, the state capital. The 40-year-old former youth leader of Ward 15 in Abeokuta South was reportedly shot and stoned to death by attackers who fled the scene in an unregistered vehicle.

The shocking murder has sent waves of grief and outrage through the community, with the APC Youth Leaders Forum condemning the brutal act and calling for swift justice. In a joint statement by the Youth Leader of Abeokuta South Local Government, Comrade Kabir Odedairo, and the forum’s State Public Relations Officer, Comrade Timothy Odedina, the group expressed deep sorrow over the loss and described the killing as senseless and horrific.

“We strongly condemn this senseless and horrific act, which has left our community shaken and grieving. The fact that Adeleke was shot and stoned to death by unknown assailants in a tinted car is particularly disturbing and warrants immediate attention from law enforcement agencies,” the statement read.

The forum urged security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the murder and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. They also called for enhanced security measures in the area to prevent further incidents of violence.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the tragic event, identifying the attackers as suspected cultists. According to police reports, the assailants arrived in an unregistered Toyota Corolla, opened fire on Adeleke, and fled the scene. The command assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being made to track down the perpetrators.

Members of the community and the APC are mourning the loss of a promising leader, with many calling for justice and increased security in Abeokuta to ensure the safety of residents. The senseless killing has raised concerns about the growing violence in the region, particularly with elections approaching, and the need for heightened security measures to protect political candidates and the general public.
