Antoine Griezmann, the standout star of France’s 2018 World Cup victory, has officially announced his retirement from international football after a distinguished 10-year career with the national team.
The 33-year-old Atletico Madrid forward shared the news, expressing a mix of nostalgia and gratitude.
Griezmann made his debut for France in March 2014 and amassed 137 caps, ranking third on the all-time appearances list behind only Hugo Lloris and Lilian Thuram.
He also stands fourth in France’s goal-scoring history with 44 goals, trailing only Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry, and Kylian Mbappe.
Among his numerous achievements, Griezmann scored in the dramatic 4-2 victory over Croatia in the 2018 World Cup final and was the top scorer at Euro 2016 with six goals.
He played a pivotal role in France’s journey to the 2022 World Cup final, where they fell short to Argentina in a penalty shootout.
Griezmann’s last appearance in a France jersey came during a UEFA Nations League victory against Belgium earlier this month.
Giroud retired after Euro 2024, signaling the end of an era for the French national team.
