Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke has petitioned a Lagos court to prevent his ex-wife, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum, from using his name following their divorce.

In his petition (Suit No. LD/15144HD/2024), Madueke requests that Diezani revert to her pre-marital surname (Agama) and publish notices in Nigerian and UK newspapers announcing her discontinuation of his name.

He argues that her continued use of his name amid her ongoing criminal trials in Nigeria and the UK poses significant legal and financial risks to him.

The petition highlights that Diezani and Madueke ceased living together in May 2015, and their marriage was officially dissolved in April 2022 by Hon. Justice A.A. Ozegya of the High Court of Nassarawa State.

Madueke maintains that Diezani’s use of his name creates embarrassment and misleads the public into thinking they are still connected, tarnishing his reputation.

Despite the divorce being finalized over two years ago, Diezani continues to use his name without justification or consent.

Madueke’s solicitors, Messrs Foundation Chambers, sent a formal letter to Diezani on December 14, 2023, urging her to revert to her maiden name, Diezani Kogbeni Agama.
