GoTV subscribers in Nigeria were left outraged on Tuesday night when several channels, including popular sports networks, suddenly vanished from their screens.

The outage occurred just as football fans were gearing up to watch the much anticipated UEFA Champions League matches, leading to widespread calls for compensation from MultiChoice, the parent company of GoTV.

Affected channels included major sports networks like SuperSport Blitz Africa, SuperSport Football Africa, and ESPN, as well as other entertainment options such as M-Net Movies 4, Africa Magic Epic, and CNN International.

Reports indicate that the service disruption was caused by a severe power failure affecting the Intelsat 33e satellite, which serves multiple regions including Africa.

Many subscribers expressed their disappointment, particularly those who had planned their viewing around the Champions League games.

Customers urged the company to consider extending subscription expiration dates due to the service interruption.

When reached for comment, MultiChoice spokesperson Caroline Oghuma acknowledged the disruption, attributing it to technical issues with their satellite provider, Intelsat.

As the situation unfolds, GoTV users continue to await answers and hope for a swift resolution to the channel disruptions.
