In the wake of fresh- global concerns about a new COVID-19 variant known as XEC, the House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare as well as relevant agencies to intensify surveillance at all international borders and ports of entry.

Adopting a motion of urgent public importance, the House notes that the spread of the COVID-19 variant across 43 countries of the world makes Nigeria vulnerable to a potential outbreak that should be prevented through proactive measures by relevant authorities.

National Assembly Correspondent Mitaire Ikpen reports that lawmakers at Tuesday’s plenary frowned at enforcement of a ban on tinted car glasses and covered Number plates in the Federal Capital Territory without sufficient public notice.
