The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has promised improved welfare for members of staff of the commission before the end of 2025.
The ICPC boss gave the assurance during the opening ceremony of a two-day sensitisation workshop organised for the commission’s staff.
Dr Aliyu emphasised that plans had been set in motion to ensure an effective turnover in staff welfare, promising that the much-anticipated positive change would manifest soon.
He said, “I want to use this opportunity to reassure all officers that management is working assiduously to boost the welfare package of staff, both now and when they exit the service. We recognise that this will be one of the best forms of motivation for excellent service delivery, so it is top on our agenda for 2025.”
The chairman also urged participants to establish a strong foundation for service delivery, ensuring that they carry out their duties efficiently while upholding the commission’s reputation.
He further mentioned that the sensitisation session would include a presentation on the ICPC Service Charter and an overview of the Code of Ethics, while emphasising the staff’s role in its implementation.
He said, “The Code was designed to guide the behaviour of staff in dealing with ethical issues, to prevent corruption, and to enhance integrity and transparency in all operations.”
He charged participants to utilise the workshop to enhance their service delivery skills and significantly improve their abilities to align with the commission’s core values in 2025 and beyond.
On her part, the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, advised participants to work towards improving service delivery by embracing the right attitudes to work.
She said, “The right attitude to work, especially in the context of anti-corruption efforts, is essential to ensuring success in ICPC’s mandate. Effective complaint handling is a critical tool in preventing service failures and corruption. By embracing transparency, accountability, and professionalism, ICPC can contribute to better governance and public trust.”
In her opening remarks at the workshop, the Head of ICPC’s SERVICOM Unit, Mrs Azuka Ogugua, thanked the commission’s management for providing the Unit with the necessary support and cooperation, saying that through this support, ICPC had been recognised for diligent and effective service delivery.
“For his cooperation and support, the Honourable Chairman was given an award by the SERVICOM office in 2024 in recognition of his support and commitment to citizen-centred service delivery. This award marks the first time an ICPC Chairman has been so recognised, and I believe it is well deserved. Not every Chairman received the award.”
She also encouraged commission staff to maintain a positive mindset towards any given task, saying, “We are all just ‘servants’ of the people, and under our watch, service must not fail. Let us therefore endeavour to always put in our best regardless of the situation around us and develop a culture of continuous improvement.”

No fewer than forty residents have been confirmed dead following a fresh attack by unknown assailants on Zike community, Kimakpa in the Kwall district of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, threw the village into chaos as gunmen reportedly stormed the area and opened fire on unsuspecting residents.
Many villagers, startled by the sound of gunshots, attempted to flee but were caught in the hail of bullets.
A community leader, Wakili Tongwe, who spoke to Channels Television said he and some security personnel were on patrol in a neighbouring community when the attack began.
“Though our team engaged the attackers and repelled them, the damage had already been done,” he said.
“We lost thirty-six people on the spot, and four others later died from their injuries. Several others are currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.”
Monday’s incident adds to a growing list of deadly assaults in Plateau State, coming barely two weeks after a similar attack in Bokkos Local Government Area claimed the lives of 52 residents.
Reacting to the latest violence, the Plateau State Government expressed deep concern and condemnation.
Commissioner for Information and Communication Joyce Ramnap described the attack as “one too many” and warned that the increasing violence posed an existential threat to the state’s peace-loving citizens.
“It is sad that in less than two weeks after our people were killed in Bokkos, we are faced with another horrific attack in Bassa,” Ramnap said. “This is an attempt to puncture the peace that has gradually returned to the State.”
She urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while assuring that the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang is committed to holding perpetrators accountable.
“The government will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone or group found responsible for these heinous acts,” she added, cautioning against reprisals.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
