In a strategic move to enhance internal security and combat crime more effectively, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has appointed CP Abayomi Shogunle as the head of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad. Additionally, CSP Chima Ogarashi has been named the new Force Marine Officer (FMO), tasked with improving security along Nigeria’s waterways.
CP Shogunle, a seasoned officer with vast experience in operations and public relations, is expected to lead the SIS in tackling security threats, ensuring safe elections, and implementing measures to protect schools nationwide. His leadership is seen as a critical step in reinforcing police efficiency in handling security challenges.
CSP Chima Ogarashi, now overseeing the Force Marine Unit, brings extensive expertise in maritime security and law enforcement. His appointment comes as the Nigeria Police Force intensifies efforts to secure inland waterways against criminal activities such as piracy, smuggling, and illegal arms trafficking.
As part of the police force’s renewed focus on waterways security, the IGP also announced the unveiling of 25 newly acquired gunboats, with plans to acquire more maritime safety equipment. This initiative aims to enhance patrol operations, improve response time to maritime crimes, and foster confidence in Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.
Reiterating the police force’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, IGP Egbetokun assured the public of a more proactive approach to internal security.
“These appointments and strategic asset acquisitions reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the safety of Nigerians. We remain steadfast in our mission to create a secure environment for all,” the IGP stated.
