IGP orders withdrawal of personnel from Rivers LGAs

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the withdrawal of police personnel previously stationed across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.

This move, announced by the Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko.

The newly appointed State Commissioner of Police, Bala Mustapha, communicated this directive, while noting that the Nigeria Police Force is commited to remaining neutral and supporting the democratic process.

Police presence at the local government secretariats will be pulled back unless a security threat arises, in which case officers will be redeployed promptly to restore order.

The Rivers State Police Command reassured citizens of its dedication to maintaining peace and order and called for calm and compliance as events unfold.

The statement read in part:

“The newly deployed State Commissioner of Police, Bala Mustapha, conveyed the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel previously deployed to seal and safeguard the Local Government Secretariats in the state.”
