In a harrowing incident on Tuesday night, unknown gunmen targeted the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Council headquarters, resulting in the deaths of two security personnel and extensive damage to the premises.

The assailants launched their attack around 8:30 p.m., firing indiscriminately and setting several vehicles ablaze.

Sources suggest that the violence may be linked to the ongoing APC local government primary elections across the state’s 27 LGAs and 305 wards.

The attackers reportedly believed that the primary was taking place at the council headquarters, leading them to storm the building and execute the security guards on duty. Several other individuals were injured in the chaos.

The attack has instilled significant fear in the local community, prompting many residents of Umuelemai, the LGA headquarters, to flee to neighboring villages for safety.

The urgency of the situation has called for immediate intervention from both government authorities and law enforcement.

Attempts to contact the Imo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, for further information were unsuccessful as his phone lines were unreachable at the time of this report.
